This issue goes all Magnolia on us, telling five-interconnected stories, each starring a different character. They are:
Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen: Jimmy is buying milk in a 7-Eleven when some gang members in The Dark Knight clown masks stick up the place. Jimmy, momentarily forgetting he’s not a badass, manages to get one of their guns and chases them with a motorcycle, finding out that one of the clowns is actually his boss’ son, Jerry White. Superman’s Girlfriend, Lois Lane: Lucy rather carelessly mentions the “Jerry is a crook” thing to her sister Lois, who doesn’t share Jimmy’s reservations and immediately sets off to do a story about it. She then presents the report to her editor…
Superman’s Boss, Perry White: Perry has an argument with Lois about whether or not they should run a story about the criminal activities of Perry’s teenage son. Meanwhile, Jerry is booked into jail but he still refuses to rat out the guy financing the gangs. Jerry then gets a beating from the other inmates to make sure he keeps his mouth shut, which has the counterproductive effect of making him talk to his teacher/roommate…
Superman’s Acquaintance, Jose Delgado: Jose learns, through Jerry, that Lex Luthor is behind the gangs and tries to confront Luthor at a public event. Luthor sends some goons to kill Jose, but he’s saved by Superman. Superman and Jose bond over their mutual dislike of…
Superman’s Enemy, Lex Luthor: Luthor has been experimenting on gangbangers to turn them into super-gangbangers and kill Superman. The only problem is that they all keep dying.
Plotline-Watch:
Part 2 of “Gangwar!”, which will wrap up next issue.
Who The Fuck Is Synapse: Luthor’s gang member experimentation project (started last issue under the guise of a rehabilitation program) is called “Project Synapse.” This will eventually result in Synapse/Combattor, the villain Superman inexplicably dreamed about back in Adventures #427, despite never having met him.
The Misadventures of Jose Delgado: Another appearance, another trip to the hospital. Jose escapes this issue with only a few kicks to the stomach and a bullet grazing his shoulder. He got off easy this time.
Also, Jerry and Jimmy have a brief scene together here. They’ll eventually become friends and worship Satan.
