This month we have two big changes and a handful of tidyings.

First, privacy! In the free alpha that you get access to by signing up for this newsletter, StoryTime rooms are now only accessible to their creators in the free version. No one else can see rooms or stories you create. You can’t see anyone else’s rooms or stories.

If you need someone else — say, your teammates — to see your rooms, send us an e-mail at team@storytime.team

Second, we’ve shipped the first version of an “iteration view.” When you look at a room in StoryTime you’ll now see a kind of self-updating caliper enclosing the stories you’ve completed in the last 7 days, and the stories that StoryTime expects you to finish within the next 7 days.

Ahhh, progress

The goal here is to make it easy to tell “how the team is doing” with a quick glance at the backlog, especially for people outside the team who were fluent in reading Pivotal Tracker backlogs.

Finally, the tidyings and bug fixes include, but are not limited to

  • The Rooms page looks much nicer

  • You should no longer be constantly logged out in iOS

  • Clicking a link in an external story description should go to that link

  • Drafts numbering should not disappear after reloading

  • Markers should still show the projected date when expanded

  • Buttons in the draft state should always either say “Mark as Ready” or “Mark as Unready,” since ready and unready are the only valid states for drafts.

  • An outline around the delete button

Updated, nicer rooms page.

Next Month

I expect this to get shuffled around some based on conversations we’re having with potential customers, but right now the main things upcoming are:

  • Read only access for specific users on specific backlogs, so that our customers can share certain backlogs with client stakeholders.

  • Make it slightly harder to log out — we’ve noticed that people accidentally click the log out button because they think it takes them back to Rooms

  • Projections should update immediately when we take actions that change them

  • Title editing on mobile should be easier/possible

  • More improvements to the Rooms page and Room creation workflow

  • Fix a bug where story titles don’t immediately update when closed

  • A real account page, so you can see stuff about your account! Links to some hard-to-discover pages like the agent token will go here too

  • Fix an issue where hover state persists incorrectly after you drop a story

  • Fix an issue where collapsing stories at the bottom of the backlog moves stories above it under the cursor, breaking one of Jesse Alford’s Iron Laws of Graphic User Interfaces

  • Possibly, some more development on the API and Claude Code integration — it would be nice for my own workflow for Claude to be able to fetch the story we’re working on automatically when it starts up

Thanks again for reading,

Nat, Coby, and Jesse
