September Courses!

Hello, writers!

I hope you all had a lovely summer! September is around the corner and I wanted to let you know about a couple of courses coming up very soon.

Perfect Pitch: How to successfully communicate your idea - Monday 7th & 14th September

Writing Historical Fiction for Kids and Adults – Tuesday 8th & 15th September

Perfect Pitch

After nearly 20 years in the business, I have lots of experience when it comes to pitching, and it’s now a process I absolutely love! Just as well – pitching is an essential part of the writing and publishing process and is used every step of the way. If you want to build your confidence or hone your pitching, this is for you! Over the two sessions, we will be looking at:

  • Mindset and pitching

  • Pitching from idea creation to marketing

  • Key elements involved

  • How to pitch to agents, publishers and readers

  • Different methods of pitching

  • Utilising angles

  • Common problems and mistakes

  • Pitching and self-publishing

There will also be an opportunity to receive feedback on your pitch.

Writing Historical Fiction for Kids and Adults

I fell in love with historical fiction when I was a child and now I write it across children’s fiction, adult fiction and also have a period drama film in development. This two-week course will give you a solid introduction to the genre and cover:

  • The WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHO, HOW and WHY of historical fiction

  • Sub-genres and why they matter

  • The relationship between period drama and historical fiction

  • How to handle research

  • Different ways to generate story

  • Different formats in historical fiction

  • Making history accessible from picture books readers to YA

  • Publishing industry insights

  • Dealing with sensitivities, bias and prejudices of the past and present

If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out more information and grab some tickets here:

Both courses take place on Zoom and recordings of both sessions will be available for a limited period. I hope you can come along!

A full-whack Story Godmother newsletter will be with you soon to help you kick-start the autumn, so keep an eye on your inbox! Meanwhile, I hope the transition to September goes well!

All the best,

Amy
