Notes from the Engine Room XI Supplemental - In The World
Betta Meta Letta
It had to happen some time, and this is that time: Planning a whole extra section for Newsletter XI, but then forgetting to add it in.
There have been some categories that have drifted in and out of rotation as and when I have ideas for them, such as In My Face, the ambiguously named In My Eyes, or the relatively new In My Browser. But as the world begins to welcome us back, I'd like to add...
In The World
This segment, for events and locations of interest, will necessarily have a focus centred around my physical location; London and the Shires. Not for any other reason than those are the places, exhibitions or events that I hope to go to myself.
I am quite excited by the trainer exhibition Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street at the Design Museum. It runs until the 24th of October and tickets are £14 per adult.
But what's really blown my mind is the London Design Biennale at Somerset House. It runs until the 27th of June, and tickets cost £22.50. There'll be a lot to see, do and experience there, but for me the key thing is that the vast Georgian courtyard of Somerset House is being transformed into a forest of 400 trees. The aim of the installation, Forest for Change, is to put the climate crisis front-of-mind for visitors in a bid to advance the UN’s sustainability plan. Amid the trees is a clearing in which visitors can learn about different elements of the UN’s plan which, in addition to tackling the climate crisis, includes fighting inequality and putting an end to poverty. The forest features 23 different types of trees, all found in the UK and northern Europe, and visitors will be able to enter the installation and wander through the forest.
Denouement again
That's it.
I'm really done this time.
