There is a plethora of resources available to writers, an overwhelming plethora.

Because this is the case, I want to encourage you not to get bogged down trying to consume an overabundance of books, podcasts, and courses.

I have several resources that I’ve never taken advantage of: unopened books, untouched courses containing information that is likely outdated, podcast episodes I’ll likely never listen to, etc.

Before checking out the resources I’ve mentioned below, you may want to check your own physical and digital libraries and see if there’s something there that can help you right where you are on your writing and editing journey.

If there’s a writing or writing-related skill you would like to learn more about from a knowledgeable instructor, Writer’s Digest University is almost guaranteed to have what you’re looking for.

Skills Development Book

I have downloaded the sample of Sarah L. Kaufman’s Verb Your Enthusiasm: How to Master the Art of the Verb and Transform Your Writing. I am so impressed by what I’ve read so far that I am considering purchasing a physical copy of the book. While I do have several skills development ebooks, I prefer those I can grab and flip through as needed.

Writing Course on YouTube

Even though I’m not currently writing fantasy or science fiction, there is a lot I can learn from Brandon Sanderson, one of the most prolific writers of our time. His podcast On Writing with Brandon Sanderson is a series of a dozen lectures he has given, and I intend to watch them before the end of the year, probably in October and November. From what I’ve seen so far, I’m convinced that writers of several different genres would benefit from watching these lectures and taking notes.

While there are several other resources I could recommend, I don’t want to further overwhelm you.
