DHS cut refugees' window to contest termination of their status from 30 days to 10, effective immediately without prior notice and comment

Event: October 14, 2026 Location: Washington, D.C. Jurisdiction: Federal Abuses: Denial of due process in immigration enforcement, Denial of hearing

On October 14, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security put into effect an interim final rule, signed by Secretary Markwayne Mullin, that cut the time a refugee has to respond to a USCIS Notice of Intent to Terminate refugee status from 30 days to 10. The rule took effect on its Federal Register publication without prior notice and comment, with DHS invoking the APA's good-cause and foreign-affairs exceptions and accepting comments only afterward. A refugee who misses the deadline forfeits the right to rebut the allegations, and the regulation provides no appeal from termination.

Trump told an Arizona rally that Gov. Katie Hobbs helped rig the 2022 governor's race and falsely claimed Kari Lake won

Event: October 14, 2026 Location: Bullhead City, Arizona Jurisdiction: Federal Abuses: Election denial

Arizona's 2022 governor's race was "a rigged election" that Gov. Katie Hobbs "had a lot to do with," President Donald Trump told a midterm rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, on October 14, 2026, claiming Maricopa County voting machines "were broken purposely" in Republican areas and that Republican nominee Kari Lake "won that election." Investigations and court rulings found no evidence that the 2022 ballot-printer malfunctions were deliberate or changed the outcome, and Lake's legal challenges to her loss failed.
