Capital B reporting revealed USDA had frozen the congressionally created Advisory Committee on Minority Farmers
Event: September 25, 2026 Location: Washington, D.C. Jurisdiction: Federal Abuses: Dismantling agency capacity
On September 25, 2026, Capital B News reported that the U.S. Department of Agriculture had put its Advisory Committee on Minority Farmers, a body Congress created in the 2008 Farm Bill, "on pause" after President Trump returned to office, leaving it dormant with no new appointments. A notice shared with members said the committee and a few others were "left on paper due to strict statutory obligations" while the administration used an "operational freeze" to withhold the logistics needed to convene, and USDA's own annual committee report confirms the committee did not meet or make recommendations in fiscal year 2025.

NYC Board of Correction report found Rikers officers skipped rounds and left posts unstaffed before four 2026 deaths in custody
Event: September 25, 2026 Location: New York, New York (Rikers Island) Jurisdiction: New York City Abuses: Corrections abuse, Deaths in custody, Denial of custodial medical care
On September 25, 2026, the New York City Board of Correction released its investigation into the deaths of Barry Cozart, John Price, Rajpattie Ramkellawan and Umais Khan in Department of Correction custody between March and May 2026, finding that in all four cases correction staff failed to conduct required supervisory tours and welfare checks. The board documented housing units left unstaffed for extended periods, logbook entries contradicted by video, observation aides who made no suicide-prevention rounds, unenforced drug and medication rules, and a clinic wait of more than three and a half hours for a detainee in respiratory distress whose condition DOC staff never relayed to medical staff. The department said it could not respond substantively while the state attorney general or the city Department of Investigation were still investigating the deaths.
