ProPublica revealed Oregon housing director Andrea Bell failed to disclose her husband's job at a firm working on agency-funded projects

Event: October 2, 2026 Location: Salem, Oregon Jurisdiction: Oregon Abuses: Undisclosed financial conflicts of interest

On October 2, 2026, ProPublica reported that Andrea Bell, director of Oregon Housing and Community Services, had not disclosed on her required state ethics filings that her husband, Joshua Crites, is a director at JH Brawner, a consulting firm working on housing authority projects that applied for or received tens of millions of dollars from her agency. Bell also had not notified the governor's office of the conflict in writing, as Oregon law requires, and filed amended disclosures for the previous three years on September 23, the day ProPublica asked her about the omission.
