This week in Stamford: three days of Greekfest on Bedford Street, Labyrinth with a live band at the Palace, and the moon through a telescope on Scofieldtown Road

Stamford gets a proper fall weekend. Archangels Greek Orthodox Church opens Greekfest Friday evening and keeps the grills going through Sunday afternoon, the Palace Theatre runs three straight nights of music that ends with David Bowie singing over a live band, and up on Scofieldtown Road the Stamford Museum and Nature Center points its telescopes at the moon Saturday night and opens a room full of live tarantulas Sunday morning.

Best for families this week: International Observe the Moon Night at the Nature Center's observatory on Saturday, and the free opening of Tarantulas: Alive and Up Close on Sunday.

Stamford Greekfest at Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford Street. Friday 5 to 10 PM, Saturday noon to 10 PM, Sunday noon to 5 PM. Souvlaki, gyro and the loukoumades the parish calls famous, plus live Greek music and an open invitation to dance like you grew up doing it. The raffle is $25 a ticket with a top prize of up to $10,000. Festival parking is at the Tully Health Center, 32 Strawberry Hill Avenue, so leave Bedford Street to the dancers. The Billy Joel Legacy: A Tribute Experience at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street, 7:30 PM, doors at 6:30. From the producers behind the Simon and Garfunkel and George Michael tribute shows, and it follows his career from the early records forward. This is the first of three nights running at the Palace: Simply The Best, a Tina Turner tribute, follows Friday at 8 PM with tickets from $30. Ticketed, from $39.50 plus fees, all ages, indoors. The Off-Main Experience at The SEED, 63 Richmond Hill Avenue, 5 to 8 PM. Featured artist Lauren Clayton leads a group painting that reads "Better Together" and stays at The SEED permanently, with live music while everyone takes a turn with a brush. The SEED is a walk-up gallery built into a shipping container and open around the clock, which is a very Stamford way to fit art into a lunch break. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

The Impact of New Election Laws with Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas in the Dudley N. Williams Jr. Auditorium at the Ferguson Library, 1 Public Library Plaza, 10 to 11 AM. The state's chief elections officer walks through the recent law changes, accessibility accommodations for seniors and voters with disabilities, and demonstrates a ballot tabulator in person. Free, registration required, adults, indoors. Details.

Rhythm and Rumba Salsa Nights at the Cohen Display Fountain in Mill River Park, 1040 Washington Boulevard, 6 to 9 PM. The Mayor's Multicultural Council and the Mill River Park Collaborative close out their two-night Hispanic Heritage Month series with an open-air dance floor, and no partner or experience is required. Bring a blanket or a chair; food and drinks are for sale. Free parking at the UConn lot, 1194 Washington Boulevard. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

Reggaeton Flow Pilates and Sound Bath at Sala Tree Yoga House, 135 Atlantic Street, second floor, 7 to 8 PM. Forty-five minutes of mat Pilates set to reggaeton, then singing bowls to bring your heart rate back down before dinner downtown. Bring a mat, a towel and water, and arrive on time: the doors lock 15 minutes after class starts. Ticketed, ages 16 and up, indoors. Details.

The magnet school lottery for the 2027 to 2028 school year opened September 15. Stamford Public Schools runs one timeline for all seven magnet schools: Hart Magnet Elementary, Toquam Magnet Elementary, Westover Magnet, Scofield Magnet Middle School, Rogers International School, Strawberry Hill School and the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering (AITE). Half Full Brewery brewed a pumpkin ale sold only at Cingari's ShopRite stores. The Pacific Street brewery made Cingari Family Markets Pumpkin Ale, a 6 percent medium-amber ale with real pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg, sold only at Cingari Family ShopRite stores, including the Commerce Street and Shippan Avenue locations here, while supplies last. Half Full founder Conor Horrigan called it a beer that "feels like fall in our own backyard," and Cingari President and CEO Thomas Cingari Sr. called it "a beer made for fall in Connecticut." A saltbox Colonial built around 1780 is for sale on Erskine Road for $3.4 million. The house at 351 Erskine Road was expanded in the 1940s and renovated top to bottom in 2020, and it now runs to 6,995 square feet with six bedrooms and nine bathrooms on 2.7 acres. Jim Henson's Labyrinth: In Concert, 40th Anniversary at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street, 7:30 PM, doors at 6:30. The 1986 film plays in HD on the big screen while a live band performs the full score and soundtrack in sync with David Bowie's original vocals. The tour is hitting more than 60 cities, and costumes are openly encouraged, so expect at least one Goblin King in the lobby and possibly several in the orchestra seats. Ticketed, from $29.50 plus fees, VIP packages available, all ages, indoors. Details.

International Observe the Moon Night at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center's Astronomy Center and Planetarium, 151 Scofieldtown Road, 7 to 10 PM. Pick a live Stamford Skies planetarium show at 7:30 or 8:30, then stay for moon crafts, demonstrations and a look through the observatory telescope, weather permitting. You are welcome to bring your own telescope. Ticketed, $30, $25 for members, registration required, all ages, indoors and outdoors. Details.

The Stamford Downtown Farmers Market at Veterans Memorial Park, 130 Atlantic Street, 9 AM to 1 PM. Local produce, flowers, bread, cheese and baked goods, with free yoga at 9 and live music from 10:30 to 12:30, weather permitting. The market takes SNAP and WIC, and parking at the Landmark Garage is complimentary for shoppers this season. It runs Saturdays through October 10. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

The Eras Tour (Drag Version) Saturday Brunch at The Stamford Hotel, 700 East Main Street, doors at 10 AM and show at 11. Host Glitteress with Tiffany Vogue, Lorelei, Die Anna and Barbra, Please working through every era by lip sync, with brunch and mimosas. Wear the outfit. Ticketed, no refunds, all ages per the organizer, indoors. Details.

Tarantulas: Alive and Up Close opens at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center's Bendel Mansion, 39 Scofieldtown Road, 9:30 AM to 5 PM. A hands-on exhibit of live tarantulas built around the case that these supposedly fierce spiders would much rather run and hide than fight, which is also most people's plan when they see one. No registration, just drop in. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

The 14th Annual Miles for a Mission 5K Run and Walk at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2810 Long Ridge Road, starting at 9 AM. This year's race benefits INTEMPO, the Stamford music education nonprofit, and dogs are welcome: Dogapalooza starts at 9:15 with prizes for Best Trick, Best in Show and Looks Most Like Your Dog. Can't make Sunday morning? A virtual 5K counts any time through September 20. Ticketed, $38.10 including the registration fee, dogs welcome, outdoors. Details.

WineFest on Bedford returns to Latham Park on Saturday, October 3, 3 to 5:30 PM, with more than 20 wineries, live music and lawn games. Advance general admission is $40, VIP $50 with entry at 2 PM, and it is strictly 21 and over. Details.

St. Francis Episcopal Church holds "Land of Hope and Dreams," an evening prayer service built on Bruce Springsteen songs, on Saturday, October 10 at 5 PM. The St. Francis Choir sings, the Rev. Joseph J. Rose leads it, and it is free with a freewill offering. Details.
