Reflection #52 Siblings and Family

Reflection #52: Siblings and Family
I am blessed to have siblings,
though life has scattered us,
some quiet promise remains—
we hope to be there, no matter what.
As children we grew side by side,
co-conspirators in small rebellions,
holding secrets like treasures,
learning, belonging in shared walls.
We lived the same rules,
laughed at our hidden jokes,
forged memories only we hold—
a home carried within.
Adulthood reshaped each of us,
victories and losses unfolding,
Distance bringing its quiet ache,
and some wounds resisting mending,
Even now, I treasure the past ease—
of sitting, of remembering,
the catching up of who we’ve become,
time folding gently between us.
Still, I’m learning the art of grace,
softening edges with understanding,
trying to hold difference with tenderness—
such a fragile, human mercy.
So, I reach out, again and again,
a call, a message, a simple word,
reminding myself and the other that—
the promise might still be ours.
