spencergreenhalgh.com posts digest for Aug 31 2025

Hello! Thanks for subscribing to my newsletter.

Here are long-form blog posts I published recently:

  • a glimpse of hope in Ice Cream Man (and hoopla still sucks)
  • une série de France Culture sur Jacques Ellul
  • religious institutions, religious community, and religion-as-platform
  • lines from the existential horror comic Ice Cream Man that I could work into sermons

Here are microblog posts that I published recently:

  • Today, I attended my first kids’ soccer game since rereading James Carse’s “Finite and Infinite Games” and since reading about Jacques Ellul’s ethic of non-power, and it turns out that makes a difference?
  • After years of putting this off, I have finally figured out how to network my computer to the department printer, and I no longer have to worry that my position as a tenured professor of information communication technology will be revoked for being intimidated by basic office setups.
  • DuckDuckGo (or Bing?) really loves to feed me local results when I’m deliberately looking for results in another city/state/country. It’s driving me crazy.
  • Spaced on an evening meeting that I’d actually been looking forward to and 😫😫😫
  • Today was really, truly going to be a much-needed writing day, and then I didn’t even clear my inbox until 2:30. Yayyyyyy.

Here are photos that I published recently (or at least their descriptions):

  • I hate read this article because I was sure RSS wouldn’t be mentioned. It did get a reference at the very end, but that almost feels worse. RSS is hands down the best way of customizing news consumption, and it kills me that we don’t talk about it more.
