Anambra
Soludo convenes emergency peace meeting on Aguleri–Umuoba Anam land clash AWKA, October 7, 2026
Governor Charles Soludo ordered both communities in Anambra East LGA to stop hostilities after a clash that left five dead (three from Aguleri, two from Umuoba Anam) and several injured. The state has closed Otuocha Market indefinitely. The emergency stakeholders' meeting is scheduled for today at the Light House, Awka, according to the governor's statement as carried by most outlets (a few reports say Government House). Former governor Willie Obiano has also appealed to both sides to end the fighting.
Why it matters: Land disputes between neighbouring Igbo communities can reignite quickly. Today's outcome will show whether the state can broker a lasting settlement.
21 council chairmen sworn in AWKA, October 3, 2026
Soludo swore in all 21 newly elected LG chairmen and deputies after the August 30 council election. He told them to study handover notes and account for inherited assets and liabilities.
Why it matters: The councils take over with finances the governor himself described as challenging.
Obi camp and Soludo trade words ABUJA/AWKA, October 5, 2026
Peter Obi's media office told Soludo to focus on governance after the state government's X account urged voters to reject Obi. The exchange previews the 2027 contest in the state.
Abia
Coverage gap. No verified Abia story from the last 24–48 hours met our threshold today. We are not filling the desk with older material. Reports on Governor Alex Otti's recent media briefing (health, land titles, a state performance index ranking) carry no dateline we could confirm, so we are holding them until verified.
Enugu
Mbah backs ₦300bn solar investment proposal ENUGU, October 5, 2026
Governor Peter Mbah met Eauxwell Nigeria Limited at Government House. The company says it has financing for an extra 90MW, taking the proposed programme to 100MW, about $200 million. Mbah stressed affordable power and a competitive electricity market. It is the first major deal brokered by the state's Climate and Development Investment Platform.
Why it matters: Enugu has taken regulatory oversight of its intrastate power market, and this is an early test of that framework.
Igweship tension in Ezeagu ENUGU, October 6, 2026
A civil rights group wants Mbah to step in before the October 10 election of the traditional ruler of Ozom Mgbagbu Owa, warning of rising tension over rotation among wards.
Why it matters: Succession rules are the flashpoint. Watch for a government statement before Saturday.
Imo
Abducted corps members: camp located, rescue delayed OWERRI, October 7, 2026 (latest verified reports as of October 5)
Gunmen attacked two buses on the Owerri–Onitsha road at Umunoha, Mbaitoli LGA, on October 1. The buses were carrying prospective corps members from Ibadan to camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom. Police recovered both buses and said 10 people were rescued, but could not confirm they were corps members. Parents say 20 remain captive. Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso said drones located the suspected camp, but fear of planted explosives has delayed a ground assault. The Inspector-General has sent the Deputy IG (Operations) to coordinate. Oyo State is working with Imo and the security agencies.
Why it matters: Interstate travellers on this corridor are now at the centre of a national story, and each day without a rescue raises pressure on Imo and federal security chiefs.
Ebonyi
Coverage gap. Our latest verified Ebonyi items are weeks old: Governor Francis Nwifuru's September 19 removal of the Works Commissioner, and a PDP call for him to retract remarks about opposition figures. We found no new development in the 24–48 hour window.
Delta / Anioma
Fresh push for Anioma State ASABA, October 5, 2026
Senator Ned Nwoko met traditional rulers, members of the Technical Committee on Anioma State Creation and groups including Izu Anioma, Odu Oma Club and the Anioma Youth Council. His bill proposes Asaba as capital. The committee insists the demand belongs to the people, not individual politicians.
Why it matters: Momentum is building, but state creation still requires the constitutional amendment process.
Asagba of Asaba marks two years on the throne ASABA, October 5, 2026
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori congratulated Prof. Epiphany Azinge, the 14th Asagba of Asaba, on his second coronation anniversary.
Rivers (Ikwerre / Igbo communities)
Wike, Chinda and Fubara hold reconciliation talks PORT HARCOURT, October 7, 2026
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda met Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his camp at his residence for about four hours. No one addressed journalists afterwards.
Why it matters: Rivers politics has been split for years. A genuine truce reshapes the 2027 race. The NDC candidate, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, spoke on Monday about why he withdrew his 2023 Supreme Court case against Fubara.
Note: Rivers reporting here is state-wide. Ikwerre and Igbo-community specifics were not separately verified today.

Infrastructure Tracker
- Delta (Agbarho, Ughelli North): Oborevwori directed Julius Berger to carry out permanent repairs on the failed section of the East-West Road after heavy rain and erosion. This is a federal highway; repairs ordered October 1–3.
- Anambra: the Obi camp alleges roads are crumbling during construction. This is a political claim, not an audit.
Weather & Flood Watch
Flooding remains a live issue in Rivers, where a reported ₦200,000 payment to flood victims is being questioned by an activist. In Delta, torrential rain and erosion collapsed the Agbarho road section. Rivers has been distributing state relief to flood-hit LGAs since mid-September; Bonny began distribution on October 6. In Ebonyi, the September 22–23 Akaeze (Ivo) flood destroyed about 60 houses and displaced about 300 people; the state ordered evacuations. No official forecast was verified for this edition.
