Child missing after flood sweeps Nibo–Isiagu Road; First Lady urges caution
Police said nine people, seven schoolchildren and two adults, were rescued from the flooded route in Awka South after heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday, and a search began for a missing child. On Wednesday the First Lady, Nonye Soludo, urged residents to take precautions and stop dumping refuse in drains. One outlet's headline says the pupil died; the police account we found described the child as missing, so treat the outcome as unconfirmed.
Why It Matters: Anambra is on the NiHSA high-risk list this week, and blocked drains and flooded school routes are the immediate danger for families.
Obi–Soludo debt dispute continues in the press
A Vanguard column defending Peter Obi's record answers Governor Soludo's claims on inherited debt and pensions. The state's side cites Debt Management Office records of $92,353,182 (about N127.37 billion as of June 30, 2026) in external obligations; the column disputes how those concessionary loans are characterised. This is a partisan exchange, not an audit.
Why It Matters: Debt narratives are shaping the 2027 contest in Anambra; readers should ask for primary DMO data.
Abia Desk
Otti's 'exit plan' remarks draw commentary
Governor Alex Otti has again said he will leave politics after his tenure, will not seek the Senate and will not act as a godfather. A Vanguard column on Sept. 23 calls this an unusual promise. On Sept. 17 in Umuahia, Otti said he would not impose a successor after a second term ending in 2031, pointing to the Abia Leadership Academy. On Wednesday he spoke at the Fafunwa Educational Foundation lecture in Lagos.
Why It Matters: It frames the Labour Party's succession question in Abia early and sets a benchmark other governors will be asked about.
Enugu Desk
Enugu Air flags off first international flight to Douala
Governor Peter Mbah flagged off Enugu Air's first international service, to Douala, Cameroon, calling it a milestone in his plan to make Enugu an aviation hub. The airline's CEO said Enugu is becoming a gateway. Mbah's media aide had earlier said other West and Central African routes would follow.
Why It Matters: It is the first international route for a state-backed airline in the South-East and a test of demand beyond Lagos and Abuja.
SEDC and Enugu flag off 200-hectare model farm
The South East Development Commission began the South East Agro-Development Programme at Nomeh Unateze, Nkanu East LGA. Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai represented Mbah. A community leader said local gratitude to President Tinubu would translate into votes for the APC in 2027.
Why It Matters: It is an early visible project of the SEDC, and the political framing shows how development delivery is being tied to 2027.
Imo Desk
Uzodimma approves 6,030 teachers, appoints 20 permanent secretaries
Information Commissioner Declan Emelumba said the recruits finished a six-week training at Ben Uwajimogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma, and were to meet the governor Wednesday at 10am. Separately, Leadership reported the appointment of 20 permanent secretaries.
Why It Matters: Public-school vacancies are a daily concern for parents; how the recruits are posted and paid will decide whether this lands.
IMSU lecturers' strike: last confirmed status
ASUU Owerri Zone said Imo State University lecturers were on day 37 of a strike over implementing the 2025 FGN–ASUU agreement and asked the governor to convene talks. We found no newer confirmation of whether the strike has ended.
Why It Matters: Students remain out of class; a resolution or escalation would be significant.
Ebonyi Desk
Nwifuru tells new council chairmen: office is not a route to quick wealth
At the opening of a three-day capacity workshop, Governor Francis Nwifuru urged newly inaugurated LG chairmen to keep integrity, transparency and accountability. This contrasts with a viral video from early September in which he reportedly warned chairmen to deliver APC wins in 2027 or face removal, which the PDP condemned.
Why It Matters: Council funds and the 2027 politics of local government are the same conversation in Ebonyi right now.
L-PRES livestock centre to create about 2,000 jobs, governor says
After inspecting the 295-hectare facility, Nwifuru said the reconstructed, formerly abandoned veterinary site would create about 2,000 jobs when finished. The job figure is the governor's claim.
Why It Matters: It ties into a national livestock programme and an area NiHSA also flags for flooding.
Delta / Anioma Desk
Oborevwori announces new salary structure for state tertiary staff
The governor said academic staff of the four state-owned universities get the new structure from August 2026, and non-academic and other tertiary staff from September. He announced it while swearing in the new Auditor-General and inaugurating councils for the University of Delta, Agbor, Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and Southern Delta University, Ozoro. He said enrolment has risen from about 50,000 in 2023 to over 100,000 in 2026.
Why It Matters: It directly affects staff in Anioma institutions and is likely to be compared with ASUU demands elsewhere.
Delta marks International Day of Peace at Government House
The Asagba of Asaba and the Obi of Ubulu-Unor were among royal voices at the event, which the governor tied to his MORE Agenda.
Why It Matters: Traditional rulers' presence signals the state's outreach ahead of 2027.

FCT & Diaspora Igbo Desk
APC governors split over Wike–Uzodimma feud
Vanguard reports the rift between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and some APC governors has divided the party's 31 governors. Imo's Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors' Forum, and Kwara's AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are on one side. Blocs are reportedly waiting for President Tinubu's return.
Why It Matters: It affects Imo's most visible political figure and 2027 alignments in the region.
Abia's Dr. Chima Anyaso to speak at UNGA 81
Community media reports Dr. Chima Anyaso of Bende will speak at the 81st UN General Assembly. Details of his topic were not available.
Why It Matters: A diaspora-visible platform for an Abia native.
Security Watch
Two suspects arrested over foiled attack on Agwa police headquarters
Imo police said two suspected terrorists were arrested in connection with the August attack on Agwa Divisional Police Headquarters in Oguta LGA, and that a suspected kingpin known as 'Disaster' was killed in the foiled attack. Premium Times also reported that attacks and killings in the South-East fell by about half after Simon Ekpa's imprisonment in Finland in 2025. IPOB has repeatedly denied involvement in such attacks.
Why It Matters: Steady enforcement and falling incident counts matter for travel, trade and the Monday economy.
Business & Economy
Dangote refinery IPO open to Oct. 13; power and fertiliser plans announced
The offer opened Sept. 14 and closes Oct. 13, for 4.1 billion shares at N525 each, minimum 10 shares (N5,250), and could raise about N2.15 trillion if fully subscribed. Aliko Dangote also said he will invest over $10 billion in African power over three to four years, list the fertiliser business in 2028, and back about two million vulnerable women with IPO shares through his foundation and state governments.
Why It Matters: Retail investors in the South-East can participate; the women's shares plan depends on state-government partners, none of which has been named.
Infrastructure Tracker
23rd National Sports Festival: Mbah rules out postponement
As of the last update we found (about three weeks old), Mbah directed that the Games Village and competition venues be finished before the opening date and set up daily monitoring. We found no newer update.
Why It Matters: Venue readiness is a test of Enugu's capital-spending claims.
L-PRES Izhiangbo: 295 hectares under reconstruction
See the Ebonyi desk.
Why It Matters: Jobs claim to be verified on completion.
