Well, well, well, we meet again.
If you have not yet, consider swinging by Macy's to have a listen to the Wanamaker Organ in its full-throated holiday glory. As the great Half Man Half Biscuit once sang, it's clichèd to be cyncial at Christmas.
As always, thanks for reading,

As a part of the week-long festivities leading up to the annual Space 1026 Art Auction, the 150th greatest guitarist of all time, Marissa Paternoster, returns to the stage with Noun. Previously an outlet for Paternoster's solo efforts, Noun has become more of A Thing with Kayo Dot's Phillip Price coming on board. Water Giants, the latest release from Palberta's Nina Ryser, joyfully leaps from electronic instrumentals to indie pop, sounding a bit like The Blow crossed with Arthur Russell at times. The fuzzy, blown out beats of Kate Ferencz kick things off.
Air was the iconic trio of saxaphonist Henry Threadgill, which grew out of Chicago's AACM organization in the 1970s, breaking up and reforming throughout the years. Threadgill's work lives on in the form of the Air Legacy Trio, which features the fantastic Marty Erlich, Hill Grene, and Pheeroan akLaff, and is the focus of this special performance at Solar Myth.
Back in June the Jesus Lizard announced and released Rack on the same day, much to the surprise of, well, pretty much everyone. Rack is a full-blooded resurrection, displaying the noise rock legends in fine form and proving the reunion shows weren't a blip.
This thing's technically sold out, but I would see if anyone has an extra ticket they're willing to part with because the idea of seeing Baroness in such a ridiculously tiny space sounds like sludge metal heaven to these ears.
Featuring many members of local legends Strapping Fieldhands, Sparrow Steeple careen haphazardly through the psych trails cleared by Syd Barrett. Clint Takeda of Bardo Pond/Bitter Bitter Wish and Cartoon's Matt Shuff are along for the ride. It doesn't get more Philly than this.
Well, if you thought this newsletter would be free from figure skating-related content, think again. Contemporary skating is, more or less, people being art weirdos on ice. Montreal's LPL are one of the best to do it, and Philly is very lucky to have a stop on their current tour.
Sound Advice is a weekly newsletter highlighting upcoming concerts and music-related events in the greater Philadelphia area. Expect 1-5 shows of note, perhaps an occasional guest contributor or two, published on Thursdays.
Local concert listings can be found at the following websites because I am not a concert calendar:
Please support the artists who make this possible by buying their stuff and seeing their shows.
If you like this, tell a friend and/or buy me a slice of pizza.
