Issue 5: Slow Trends
Welcome back, people
Kvetching to a friend about the difficulty I’ve had maintaining a writing practice in more recent, post-child years — “I just can’t keep my finger on the pulse anymore,” I lamented — he suggested that I consider focusing on an historical subject, something that I could work on slowly, over the course of time. My mind is naturally wired for speed, however, which is likely why I enjoyed the challenge of blog editing back in the day: Waking up, scouring the RSS news feeds, writing hot takes. Hitting “publish” again and again and again.
I’ve decided to reconfigure Soft Labor into what I’m calling a “slow trend” report on the subjects I’ve written about for years: Digital and visual culture. Design. Probably some fashion thrown in, for self-amusement. A recommendation here and there. Links! Slower takes.
The beauty of writing a free newsletter — a private blog-cum-email — for a few hundred or so voluntary subscribers is that I can trust my readership. Many of us have known one another for a long time. Soft Labor will show up in your inbox when you least expect it. Thanks for reading, and do keep in touch — whether in the comments or elsewhere. I miss you.
