Issue 21: Related/Unrelated
In the Mood for Fall
Soft Labor, is a newsletter about visual culture that focuses on trends as they emerge over the arc of time. Related/Unrelated is a link-heavy feature that I generally write for paid subscribers only. I am deeply grateful to those who support Soft Labor.
Scroll: I always pay close attention when I see a new form emerge, only to be instantly criticized, vilified, or otherwise resisted — a sure sign of a cultural or artistic paradigm shift. And so, I’ve been very curious to read (via The Fader and Rolling Stone) that the majority of NFTs have lost their monetary value — as if monetary value were the only value proposition! The Business of Fashion’s Marc Bain reports that the enthusiasm around NFTs has similarly faded out in the fashion world.
Christie’s, however, doesn’t seem to believe this claim as according to Artnet’s Min Chen, Keith Haring’s before-unseen computer drawings, made on an Amiga personal computer gifted to him by Timothy Leary in the 80s, were minted into NFTs and placed on “the block” in both Seoul and New York just days ago. //
