Issue 19: Related/Unrelated
Yu and Me forever in a summer of (artificially intelligent) heat
Soft Labor is a “slow trend” report on design and visual culture — no rush to publish! — written by me, Sarah Hromack, a digital strategist and writer based in Brooklyn, New York. Related/Unrelated, an early aughts-style link roll of sorts, is a feature generally reserved for paid subscribers that I elected to publish beyond the paywall for this issue. Please consider supporting my work by upgrading to a paid subscription.
Donate: In the last issue of Soft Labor, I regaled Yu and Me Books, a beloved female Asian American-owned bookshop and community space in Chinatown, on Mulberry Street. Very, very sadly, a recent fire in a residence above the store has forced its closure (as chronicled by Curbed). The literary community has rallied, as it tends to: Brooklyn’s own Books are Magic will play host to some of Yu and Me’s events, for example. A GoFundMe page has already raised over a quarter of a million much-needed dollars to fund the store’s renovation. Please consider making a donation.
