Signal Drop #5: Local SEO OS — GBP checklist without the fluff

Wed Oct 28, 2026 · the AI ops, short version

Evening. Issue #4 was the agent loop and the free-playbook → keyword funnel. This one is the ops layer those agents need: a Local SEO OS with Google Business Profile as the control plane — checklist-shaped, no fluff, no ranking theater.

1. Why “Local SEO OS” now - Agents drafting categories and posts only help if the profile underneath is complete and consistent. Incomplete GBP loses before fancy prompt stacks start. - Think OS, not one-off audit: NAP → category stack → services/photos → posts → Q&A/reviews → tracking → duplicate watch — on a loop a human can approve. - Builders shipping local SEO agents need a shared hygiene checklist so the bot drafts against the same bar every week. - Takeaway: map-pack hygiene is mostly boring completeness, run as an operating system — not a single “optimize once” pass.

2. GBP checklist core (one pass) - NAP consistency — Name, Address, Phone match across GBP and the site/footer; no clever alternate spellings. Google’s representing-your-business rules still apply. - Primary category first — narrow + accurate (“this business IS a…”). Extra categories only when they describe a real separate service — not keyword stuffing. (Google — categories) - Services / products fields — fill what you actually sell; drop hallucinated bullets agents invent from a niche brief. - Photo cadence + cover freshness — storefront, interior, team, work-in-progress; rotate cover when the season or offer changes. - Posts / offers rhythm — updates / offers / events that are specific and dated; policy-clean; no unverified phone spam in the body. (Google — posts) - Q&A + review response loop — seed honest FAQs; reply velocity + specific text beat volume theater; name the service/location naturally; don’t invent incentives. - UTM / tracking on the website button — so you know Maps → site traffic actually moved. - Duplicate listing / spam flag watch — merge or report ghosts before they steal calls; stay inside Google’s representation guidelines. (Google — representing your business) - Takeaway: category → NAP/services → photos → posts → Q&A/reviews → tracking → duplicates. Same loop every month (or after a competitor surge / service change).

3. What an agent can check vs what still needs a human - Agent-friendly: paste-in category gap vs competitors; draft primary/secondary shortlists from niche + city; draft description/service bullets from the real menu; weekly post calendar; review replies ranked by urgency (1★ first). - Human-only: confirm a category fits real services before you request it; approve photos and claims; send review replies; merge duplicates; anything that edits the live listing. - Pattern watch (same shape as #4): agent drafts, human approves. We’re watching this across indie SEO threads — we’re not claiming a map-pack earnings case study of our own. Steal the system shape, not someone else’s screenshots. - Soft tool fit: GBP Kit runs a free Category Gap Checker + audit checklist in your browser — no signup, no Google API, no scrape, no ranking guarantees. Paste what you see; nothing leaves the tab.

4. Soft tools + pack (when ready) - GBP Kit — live — free GBP audit checklist + Category Gap Checker. Score the profile in ~10 minutes. Research aid only. - CapsuleKit free tools — browser utilities for store/capsule art when you’re listing local offers visually; no signup wall for the free set. - Pack Rat Local SEO pack (soft $29–$49 when ready) — deeper checklist + prompt pack aimed at the loop above. No ship-date guarantee. Keyword waitlist only for now. - Waitlist keyword: LOCALSEO (all-caps) — reply to this email with LOCALSEO (or subscribe first, then reply). Checklist deep-dive ships with the pack / alongside gbpkit — this issue is the OS sketch, not a paid funnel.

Optional soft tip: Analog Horror VHS SFX — free sampler if you need texture for local-offer creatives — 9 sounds; own projects, no resale.
