Signal Drop #4: Local SEO agents + the keyword funnel
Wed Oct 28, 2026 · the AI ops, short version
Evening. Less “model drop of the day,” more how builders are wiring agents into local SEO — and how free playbooks turn into waitlists without ad spend.
1. The local SEO stack agents actually touch - Google Business Profile still rewards boring completeness: primary category first (narrow + accurate), then a few extra categories only when they describe a real separate service — not keyword stuffing. Google’s own guidance: categories answer “this business IS a…,” not “HAS a…”. - Services list, description, hours, attributes, and photos are the storefront AI Overviews and Maps lean on. Incomplete profiles lose before fancy prompt stacks start. - GBP Posts are useful again for “what’s happening” (updates / offers / events) — keep them specific, dated, policy-clean; no unverified phone spam in the body. - Review ops: reply velocity + specific text matter more than volume theater. Answer positives and negatives; name the service/location naturally; don’t invent incentives. - Takeaway: the “AI local SEO stack” is mostly disciplined GBP hygiene on a loop — category stack → description/services → posts → review replies — with an agent drafting and a human approving. - Sources: Google — categories · Google — representing your business · Google — posts · Alchemer — GBP for AI search (2026)
2. How builders use agents on that loop (pattern watch) - Prompt packs that spit primary + secondary category shortlists from a niche + city brief. - Draft GBP descriptions and service bullets that match the real menu (no hallucinated offerings). - Post calendars: weekly update / offer / event drafts ready to paste. - Review reply drafts ranked by urgency (1★ first), with brand voice + local keywords — human sends. - We’re watching this pattern across X threads and indie SEO posts. We’re not claiming a bankrupt→$100k/mo agency case study of our own. Steal the system shape, not someone else’s screenshots.
3. The distribution pattern that pays later: free playbook → keyword → sampler / waitlist - Long free thread or issue explains the stack (this one). - Reader replies with a keyword → you DM / email the lead magnet or waitlist confirm. - Soft next step: free sampler or tools page → optional paid pack when it exists. - Same funnel shape people use for courses and prompt packs. We’re using it for Local SEO, CapsuleKit, and Assetsmith — $0 ads.
Platform note: Substack / Beehiiv free-tier upgrades are research-later. Signal Drop stays on Buttondown free for now — no new accounts, no spend.
