Royal Brunei Airlines Completes SES Inflight Wi-Fi Rollout

WHAT HAPPENED

SES and Royal Brunei Airlines have finished installing RB SkyConnect inflight Wi-Fi across the airline's Airbus A320neo fleet. The deployment makes Royal Brunei Airlines the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region to operate SES's latest multi-orbit satellite product on a commercial fleet.

WHY IT MATTERS

The completion of this rollout signals a shift toward satellite-based inflight connectivity as a competitive standard in regional aviation. Multi-orbit satellite systems can deliver service to aircraft across extended routes where terrestrial networks have limited coverage, a key advantage for airlines operating throughout Southeast Asia. The technology enables real-time data exchange between aircraft and ground operations, supporting both passenger services and airline maintenance and dispatch functions.

WHO BENEFITS

Passengers gain access to inflight internet and entertainment services throughout flights. For Royal Brunei Airlines, the deployment creates operational advantages through improved real-time communication and data access during flight operations. SES expands its footprint in the Asia-Pacific aviation market, establishing a reference customer for the technology in the region.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

SES intends to expand RB SkyConnect installations across five additional Asia-Pacific airlines by the end of 2027. The timeline suggests a deliberate market-building approach, with Royal Brunei Airlines serving as an early adopter whose experience will likely influence purchasing decisions among regional carriers evaluating similar systems. The deployment pattern may prompt other Southeast Asian airlines to evaluate satellite connectivity options for their own fleets.
