PHILIPPINE AIRLINES RESTORES MANILA–SAIPAN NONSTOP SERVICE

What Happened

Philippine Airlines will restore nonstop flights between Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Saipan International Airport starting October 25, 2026. The carrier is positioning the route as a leisure service designed to capture connecting traffic through its Manila hub from Japan, South Korea, Greater China, and other Southeast Asian markets.

Why It Matters

This route restoration reestablishes a direct link between the Philippines and Saipan, the largest island and seat of government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, a US territory. The nonstop connection addresses a gap in regional aviation and creates a gateway for passengers traveling between Asia's major markets and a destination previously accessible only through connections.

Who Benefits

Filipino nationals, who comprise roughly a third of Saipan's population, gain a direct travel option to family and community connections in the Northern Mariana Islands. The route is also expected to attract passengers from Japan, South Korea, and Greater China connecting through Manila, expanding the addressable market for both Philippine Airlines and tourism operators in the region. Airlines, tourism boards, and hospitality sectors in both the Philippines and the Northern Mariana Islands stand to benefit from increased traffic flow.

What Happens Next

Philippine Airlines plans to feed the Manila–Saipan service with connecting flights to multiple Philippine leisure destinations, including Cebu, Boracay, Bohol, Coron, Siargao, and Davao. The airline is focusing on creating a seamless connecting experience to maximize the route's commercial appeal through enhanced marketing and service offerings.
