The Naming Ceremony

The weather’s slowly warming up in Chicago, so I spent a week building a new levain culture. I used the technique we lay out in Let’s Make Bread! and built it with rye flour, and it’s a powerful little beastie! Of course, a new yeast tamagotchi needs a proper name.

Bredwig is GREAT so far. My best levain culture yet. I made baguettes with her this weekend and they’re delicious and springy as heck!
Oh hey! Maybe you noticed the new logo at the top of the newsletter! I’m trying to get my act together about professional type things, so I have a new header and footer here, and I've got matching graphics on my portfolio site, my Square site, and my Threadless shop! Speaking of, check out the Threadless shop: I’ve uploaded a new design, and I’m trying to get it reorganized and prettied up a bit. I’ll be adding many more designs soon, too! Also from now until Thursday, you can use the code ENJOY20 for 20% off anything in the shop.
Upcoming Things:
I will be exhibiting at CAKE Chicago in June!
Hey Sarah, how’s the book going:
22 pages done!! 22/192. Not as many as I wanted to do last week, but I’m also wrestling with the copy edit now, and learning that all of my instincts about commas are very, very, very, very wrong.
What I’m into lately:
I’m current reading The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon for my book club. I’m only about a quarter of the way in, but it’s already absolutely everything I ever want out of a book. The characters, the intrigue, the magic, the pathos… I’m not going to want this book to end. It makes me feel like a kid again with a new haul from the Scholastic book fair. It makes me feel like Bastian hiding in the school’s attic reading a stolen book.
What Toki’s into lately:
Are you kidding me.

1.) Johannes Glutenberg is utterly brilliant.
2.) my cat seems to go out of his way to walk across my laptop when I'm working. he's perfected the art of putting his paw in just the right place to switch to airplane mode.
