How's the Book Going, Sarah? (part 3)

hand lettered title that reads "I Think You're Sauceome" with a cartoon drawing of a peapod

THE BOOK IS FINISHED!! Let’s Make Cocktails! is now AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER!

The book is finished!! The book is finished! Well, mostly. I finished coloring the last pages last Tuesday, and all the art is placed into the layout. I still want to review everything a few more times before I send it all to the publisher. But It feels amazing to be finished with the work. It also feels sad! this book has been my companion for a year and a half, and it feels a little lonely to be done with it It also feels terrifying! this is my first book without a coauthor. If people don’t like it, they’ll only have me to blame. it’s not perfect! but… I could work on it for decades and it still wouldn’t be perfect. I do think it’s good. I think it’s a super approachable and accessible introduction to making your own cocktails. It’s 192 pages long! I worked really hard on it - on the research, the writing, the organization, testing the recipes, making everything pretty and easy to read And I’m proud of all that work And I can’t wait for people to see it.
I have an actual drawing table! For some reason I wanted to draw this book everywhere BUT there.

How’s the Book Going, Sarah

How’s the Book going, Sarah, (part 2)

A brief recap: the first time this project was discussed was November 2023. I finished the proposal in January 2024. Signed the contract in March 2024. Turned in progress materials in October 2024, and the full written manuscript in January of this year. And I’ve just been drawing since then! Thumbnailing, sketching, inking, coloring. And now it’s done!

I always feel a little sad and lonely at the end of a big project. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad to be at the finish line! But it also feels a little like a phantom limb. I’ve been living with this project for so long, and now that it’s finished I kind of miss it! This wistfulness never lasts long, though. I’ll have other projects to occupy myself soon enough.

(Now that this behemoth of a project is done, I promise next week’s newsletter will be a kolache recipe!)

Shameless Self Promotion:

Let’s Make Cocktails! comes out in April of next year! As mentioned up top, it’s available for preorder! In the next few weeks, ordering sites will have more info and sample interior pages for you to peruse. Preorders are awesome and incredibly helpful in making a book a success (if you’re so inclined). (^_^)
