A New Book!
A little sneak peek at what we're working on next!

You might have seen this already if you follow my insta or bluesky, but we finally announced the next book in the Let’s Make series! This one will be called Let’s Bake Cookies!, and I’m making it with Great British Bake Off star and all around marvelous human, Kim-Joy!

The short version: Kim-Joy and I met in 2025 at C2E2, where we both spoke on a panel about cookbooks and comic books (with the also-delightful Jarrett Melendez!). At the tail end of the panel, an audience member asked what projects we’d like to work on next. Kim-Joy said she’d made some cookbooks, and written a graphic novel, but liked the idea of combining the two into comic book cookbooks! She turned to me on stage and said, maybe we should make a book together? After the panel I told her if she was serious, I was too, and we kept in touch! We spent the end of 2025 working on a pitch together, and submitted it to Ten Speed at the beginning of 2026.

Comics take forever to make, and super long comic book cookbooks doubly so. Each of the Let’s Make books have taken about two years from start to finish. So you won’t see this one on your shelves until spring 2028, most likely. We’re just getting started on the book now, but the first few recipes are already incredibly delicious and, of course, also super adorable:

It’s just the beginning of this project, but it’s already utterly delightful. What an absolute dream this career path is. I get to spend two years testing delicious recipes and drawing adorable cookie pictures! Sometimes I just can’t believe how lucky I am to get to do this kind of work!
Upcoming Events:
I’ll be in Artists Alley at the ALA Conference in Chicago June 26-28. Come say hi if you’re there! I’ll have books, and prints, and even some new magnetic bookmarks! This will be my last event for a little while! I’m going back to Armenia in July to do another TUMO workshop, and there aren’t many comics events in August. I’ll be back doing an absolute ton of fun conventions this fall, though, so stay tuned!
What I’m into lately:
I just finished the Last Days of Jack Sparks by Jason Arnopp and it’s fabulous. It’s a wildly entertaining and deliciously spooky story, with an unreliable (and mostly unlikable!) narrator. It’s complicated and intricate, soulful, and extremely clever, and one of the best horror novels I’ve read in ages. If you like horrific demonic possessions, creeping dread, time travel paradoxes, and Rashomon-style conflicting narratives, this is the book for you.
What Toki’s into lately:
He’s spending the summer recharging those solar batteries!

Oh my goodness, I'm getting this for my nephew!

Hoping there's some gluten-free recipes I can share with the cookie-craving GFers in my life...
