A Little Half-Assed and a Little Late

hand lettered title that reads "I Think You're Sauceome" with a cartoon drawing of a peapod

I’m ok! Everything is fine!

Niles's brother sam and his awesome wife yoojin were visiting us from tokyo for the last few days! i was planning on drawing all the awesome things we ate while they were in town (i still might) but time is slipping away from me and i'm getting a little stressed! i have 18 pages left to pencil for the cocktail book this week then i need to get all the art placed in my indesign file and probably adjust the text on pretty much every page all of that's due july 1. next tuesday. plus this weekend is CAKE, the Chicago Alt Comics Expo!! it's one of my favorite comics shows anywhere, and i'll be exhibiting at table 304-A so i'm half assing this scrawly newsletter update, and delivering it late (sorry)
I have the comic about all the food we ate with Sam and Yoojin pencilled, so you’ll see it eventually.

Ok, I’m a little stressed. But I will make my deadlines, because I always make my deadlines. For better or worse, I am extremely motivated by people’s expectations of me, especially when it’s work-related. I’d rather walk over hot coals than miss a deadline.

Upcoming Things:

CAKE IS THIS WEEKEND!! CAKE Chicago is June 28 and 29 at the Irish American Heritage Center at 4626 N. Knox Ave in Chicago! It is free! It is an easy walk from the Montrose blue line stop! I’ll be at table 304A. Please come check it out! I will have many books and prints! I will also have my brand new Squid Ink riso prints!!

A riso print that says Did you eat squid ink? Did you eat beets?
It is a lovely little print perfect for hanging over the overly anxious person’s toilet

I will also have a bunch of random old watercolor paintings, including these food art fascinators.

Six watercolor paintings of women with fascinator hats made from various food items
It was a phase, but I still think they look cool, and they all need new homes

I will also have a series of tiny watercolor paintings of very good outfits worn by Dean Stockwell as Al on Quantum Leap.

a stack of small watercolor paintings depicting Al from Quantum Leap in various flamboyant outfits
I honestly kind of forget why I made these, but I’m proud of them.

Anyway, CAKE is rad as heck, and will be chock full of amazing artists with amazing work to check out. It really is one of the best curated indie comics shows in existence, and it’s completely free. Be there!

Hey Sarah, how’s the book going:

See above!! 174/192 pages! Again, this is just the pencils, but I should be able to finish 18 more pages and get them all sorted into my InDesign document by Tuesday. Then I can relax a little and just finish up the colors over the next month and a half.

What I’m into lately:

Still listening to House of Bone and Rain by Gabino Iglesias! It’s creepy, dark and tbh contains a little more physical violence than I normally like, but it’s compelling and intensely atmospheric. Also, please do not judge me, I am also playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure because it’s the exact amount of mindless low-stakes fetch-questing that my overly taxed brain desperately needs right now.

What Toki’s into lately:

Ok, so this is a terrible photo, sorry about that. But Toki was spoiled immensely by his Aunt Yoojin and Uncle Sam this weekend with lots of toys and treats and playing and brushing. He was overjoyed, but I think he’s a little tuckered out now. He’s been curled up in a little corner at the bottom of a bookshelf in my studio all day sleeping!

I would also like to sleep in a cozy little cave for a few days please
