Hi!
I am writing this a day after playing the 44th Rowan and Friends at the Golden Ball.
The 45th Rowan and Friends at the Golden Ball will be on the 26th of August.
It will feature the Rowan & Friends Band, and The York Seinfeld Players performing “The Contest“, & something else that I’ve not decided yet.
This will be our next gig.
What’s the right amount of anything?
Playing the same place 45 times is quite crazy - almost once a month at that. And making this email once a week is quite crazy.
I am worrying, lately, that I am doing “too much” of certain things, and “not enough” of other things. Whenever I make a decision re: the music, I can feel some managerial type tutting at me from music business heaven. But, I’m not in it for the “right” decisions, I’m in it for the rock n roll.
That’s why I stopped posting reels (and wish I never did), because they are an inherently addictive format, and if you are using them to promote your work, you are feeding into Meta et al’s data/time harvesting machine of un-experience.
I don’t want to post my gob in vertical format in the hope of virality. I don’t want to “hope”. I’d rather play at the same place 45 times, and make rock n roll music with my friends.
Discussion
If we (Rowan and Friends) were to leave the social internet - how would this affect the way you (the reader) engaged with us?
Do you think you would miss gigs/releases/etc. if they weren’t on the Metaverse?
That’s it
If you are new here, I only give myself 30 mins to write this newsletter. Because it keeps me consistent, and avoids perfectionism. Why should a weekly newsletter be perfect?
So if the ideas/arguments/discussion seem half-baked that’s why. :~)
Speak soon,
Rowan.
