an incredible abundance of events: creativity, community living, permission

Hey beloved,

I was down with covid earlier this month, and then I got taken out by a (thankfully small) kidney stone passing through my bladder. I think it’s still in there, taking its sweet time.

These experiences slowed me wayyyy down, and I’m so grateful to them. It was almost a threshold-crossing into the colder, darker months of the year. Somehow I found my flow with a daily meditation practice, though I dropped my rigorous gym routine. Things change.

I wonder what kind of crossings you have made in the last few weeks?

New ideas are flowing, such as the men’s group I alluded to in a previous letter. If you feel called, I’d be very grateful for some kind of introduction: maybe someone you know is going through transition or facing uncertainty and could use a call with a leadership coach. Maybe my men’s group invite resonates with you and you could share it with a couple of folks who might help me find the right people to build this container with.

As always, I’m glad to be in this world together, and hope to see you at one of the following spaces.

A Night of Musical Balm
Friday, October 24th | 8pm | Berkeley

Songs of liberation, love, and prayer. There’s not much else to say. I’m supporting nēkajun's set with vocals, percussion, and general trickery :)

Community Living Wisdom Exchange
Saturday & Sunday, October 25-26th | All Day | San Francisco

I love this event. Basically, people involved or interested in community living across the Bay Area get together to co-create spaces of inquiry around how to live together, better. There are sessions on relationship dynamics, collectively buying property, alternative family structures, and more.

I am leading a little play space to use our bodies and engage differently with conflict on Sunday morning.

BIPOC Family Constellation
Sunday, October 26th | 2-5pm | Berkeley

When I first encountered Yvette’s facilitation, I was just completely moved to tears. She has a way of creating such a grounding space for connection that lets each of us come into an authentic flow on our own terms.

I continue to find it hard to describe what a constellation entails. It’s much easier to just feel it in your body. What do you feel in your body right now, reading this? Maybe that’s all the info you need to decide whether or not it’s for you.

This time, I will be the seeker, which means that my family’s story and experience will drive the material that we collectively explore in this constellation. I highly recommend this shit!!!

Befriend your Emotions through Art
Tuesdays, starting October 28th | 5-6pm Pacific | Online

My mom is an incredible at abhinaya, the art of conveying and transmitting emotional / experiential sentiments through art.

Don’t believe me? Check her out.

She’s going to start a weekly workshop offering space for all kinds of people (not just artists) to explore the aesthetics of expressing emotion. And she wants to offer this entirely on a donation basis. Hope to see you there :)

Public Conversation with Chetna Mehta
Friday, November 7th | 2:30-3:30pm Pacific | Online

1. There is a zoom
2. There are hosts (Chetna & me)
3. We all have a conversation

Chetna and I have been exploring collaboration for a few months now, and there are many topics we feel excited to explore. Attachment patterns, listening for divine messages, and creative flow are all on our hearts at this time. Plus, it just feels good to share a meaningful moment with someone who grew up in some of the same South Asian conditioning as me. All are welcome!

Interplay Leader Showcase with Nandita Batheja
Saturday, November 8th | 1-3:30pm | Oakland

A few of you on here came to Nandita’s earlier session. She’s an incredible leader. I’m not an interplay leader, but I will have the privilege of collaborating with her as an assistant. Together, we’re wanting to look at navigating uncertainty, inner authority, resilient relationships, and maybe other topics. All through our bodies!

If nothing else, I promise this will be entirely fun.

Founder Permission Hour: Leading from Within
Thursday, November 13th | 4-5:30pm Pacific | Online

Carlos and I had so much fun hosting the last one that we’re going to do a monthly founder permission event. We just really enjoyed it, and there was a sense of effervescence in the space that felt so delicious! There’s something about addressing a group of people in the tech world in a way that’s more heart-centered yet still totally relevant to their day-to-day that gets me super excited. Excited for more.

Every time I put one of these together, I’m aware of just how much is happening. I’m grateful to those of you who read this and come to things because I invited you. I’m grateful that there’s an archive of all the events that are in motion. I’m grateful I didn’t get long covid and that my kidney stone symptoms are more chill (for now). I’m grateful for life and love.

Sharing my love with you and beyond,

Rishi
