Good Morning. Hello. How are you? #1787
Primaries, Death of Robin Hood, Laura Mirsch, microwaving ice cream, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Jane

Good morning! Hello! Hi! Howdy! Doing okay? Holding up under these less-than-ideal geopolitical and public health conditions? I do hope so. Just off of 90 minutes of work calls — an all hands and a leadership meeting. So much talking. I am not the public speaker I used to be. I get dumb jokes in my head and giggle about them and then don’t share them. It is all very weird. I probably look like a lunatic. But at least it’s reeeeaaaaaalll maaaan.
Looks like my late start has given time for the nail-biter Michigan Democratic Primary for the US Senate to resolve itself and El-Sayed won. I am happy about this. His politics most resemble mine. Though I would have been fine with either, as Stevens was polling better in the general and the most important thing is to get that seat. Politics is compromise, alas. Here’s hoping he pulls it off. Some donations might be in order. Ow my inbox. Damn you, ActBlue. We all hate you.
Also good to see those dumb ballot initiatives lose in Kansas. And that douchey NC Republican representative accused of some creepy-ass harrassment of his staff has dropped out of his race. Gotta dig into that one — not sure what the replacement process is for him. Max Miller hasn’t dropped out yet either, has he? The deadline for that is, what? Tomorrow?
We still might take the house yet.

Emma informed me last night that normal people do not microwave overly-frozen pints of ice cream. She tells me I can do something called “waiting,” and let the ice cream soften up on its own time. This seems less than efficient to me. And I firmly believe I am not alone in this belief. Please anonymously write in to the GMHHAY hotline and reassure me that I am not alone in this habit. K Thanks.

I’m listening this morning to Laura Misch. Album is called Lithic. No recollection why this is in my To Investigate queue. Don’t know anything about her let’s look her up. Laura Misch is a South-London born saxophonist, singer-songwriter, electronic producer and field recordist, says her website. She is on One Little Independent records fka One Little Indian. Huh I did not know they changed their name. Well that is probably for the best. Apple Music calls her Jazz but I would call this record more ambient, more etherial, a little trip hoppy without the hop. It is good. I like this a lot. I will be checking out more of Laura Misch. Thank you to whomever recommended this. Was it Bill? Could be!

Watched The Death of Robin Hood last night. It was better than it had any right to be. Shockingly good, actually. The fact that it was Robin Hood was, in a lot of ways, irrelevant and maybe even detracted from a fine, fine film. But I guess you gotta sell tickets. Beautiful film, though. And quite moving. Brilliant acting. Amazing cinematography and costumes. Quite a surprising find. Slow AF but I like em that way.

Finished book 6 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl books. My god book 1 has been on the NYT bestseller list for like a year or something that is crazy. This guy sells a lot of books. Makes sense. They are eminently readable, perfectly-sized chapters for “just one more chapter” before bed. It is somewhat shocking to me that he has been able to carry on this schtick for six books without it getting boring. The lore is creeping in and changing the character of the books slowly, and I like that. But my god, there are so many characters now, it is approaching GoT levels. I am referencing the Dungeon Crawler Carl wiki more and more as it goes on.
There is a TV adaptation in production now. Greenlit as straight-to-series. Produced by Seth Macfarlane’s Fuzzy Door productions. Should be interesting. I cannot fathom how some of this stuff is going to translate to television, but it will be enjoyable to watch someone try.

Jane hit me last night. Hard. It sucked. I did the normal try to get her to brush her teeth, offered her a bunch of rewards if she did, and she immediately focused on getting the rewards without doing the task at hand. I could not get her brain out of that. She locks onto it like it’s a puzzle and concocts increasingly sophisticated and elaborate arguments to use against me. And I tried and compliment her on her logic and arguing skills, I try and show her where the logic failed. That did not work so I just said I didn’t to argue any more, she could do what she wanted. But that didn’t work because now she wanted the rewards. I asked her to go to her room, she refused. She eventually realized she wasn’t going to get her way and hit me, hard, on the leg, in frustration. Which is of course not okay. I took her to her room and emma took over from there.
This has happened from time to time in the reverse, but she’s not dared to hit me in a long time. Not a great sign. I am sad about it. Emma got her down last night and I had a busy morning what with the calls and all so I have not had time to talk to her about it. That will be tomorrow morning on our walk. Parenting, man. Really is a roller coaster.
That girl. I can see her brain working, I remember when I used to argue like that — no holds barred, never surrender, never give an inch. I try to teach her that that path leads to ruin, that friends and lovers will not like it. That compromise and kindness are just as important as winning. She knows academically, but once her brain is in the zone, it will not get out short of total victory or cataclysm. Last night, alas, it was cataclysm.
What a mind, what a mind.

No playlist for you today but guess what? THERE IS A NEW BOBBY FINGERS. SO exciting. I have not watched it yet but I still feel it is important to make you aware of this. Best thing on Youtube, Bobby Fingers.
All right I gotta go do more work. Have a lovely day. Chat tomorrow. Peace in our time. Freedom Rock.
