PinkLetter - All over the place on the internet

PinkLetter (odone.io)

Pink circle

Welcome to my PinkLetter. A short, weekly, technology-agnostic, and pink newsletter where we cultivate timeless skills in web development.

My Ramblings This Week

What have you been up to lately?

I spent a lot of time creating on the internet this week:

  • I contributed to github/hotkey. Yeah, it’s documentation, but it still counts as OSS contribution.
  • I migrated odone.io from Hakyll to Next.js. Still, a ton to do, but hey I got one foot in the door now.
  • I started being more serious about co-organizing this year’s Global Day of Code Retreat in Krakow. We are excited to repeat the success we had in 2019.
  • I learned djakuju and proshu and I’m looking forward to adding more Ukrainian to my dictionary 🇺🇦.
  • I tweeted “I have ~35 years of experience combined in tech and diabetes and I’m not in health tech. I’m silly 🙂” and a lot of people sent me love.
  • Some interesting freelancing opportunities popped up. Fingers crossed!

Elsewhere on the Web

Making setInterval Declarative with React Hooks by Dan Abramov

If you played with React Hooks for more than a few hours, you probably ran into an intriguing problem: using setInterval just doesn’t work as you’d expect.

Riccardo: I challenge you to implement it without looking at the solution.

MJML - The only framework that makes responsive email easy by Mailjet

MJML is responsive by design on most-popular email clients, even Outlook. Write less code, save time and code more efficiently with MJML’s semantic syntax.

Riccardo: Am I the only silly person who didn’t know this exists?

GENERALISTS VS SPECIALISTS: MUSIC EDITION by Jonathan Stark

You might be tempted to think that an orchestra conductor is a generalist and a lead violinist is a specialist.

Riccardo: Yep, I’m still deep into the positioning rabbit hole!
