dawn’s approach reminds us both
of each one seen together
in every kind of weather

set against the crawling growth
the ashtray overflowing
as we mine still deeper lore
the gaps opening and more
the core’s much brighter glowing

but it can’t go on like this
the ocean comes to this crest
as it does every other
we have yet to see the best
to meet in a mature kiss
