#233 Person-who-made-me-cry-during-his-wedding-speech

Sex. Craft. Krumping.

2 SEPTEMBER 2026

Hello, team!

I’m back. It seems that Liam hacked into the system whilst I was away and sent out a newsletter of his own.

Gardener. Ceramicist. Person-who-made-me-cry-during-his-wedding-speech. And now white hat hacker. Is there no end to his talents?

(there isn’t, I’ve checked)

But hey, it’s September, it’s a new improv term, and those scenes aren’t going to make up themselves.

Let’s hop to it!

Rule of three

Two women, covered in blood, about to kiss in a gas station.

[Film] Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma
This is a slasher flick. And it’s also a deconstruction of the genre and specifically the way a franchise unravels as it gets older. And then it’s also about how people unravel as they get older. And it’s a queer love story and it’s about cinema and it’s really funny too. I want the Trading Card Set.

Dan Harmon surrounded by his creations from Community and Rick & Morty.

[Podcasts] Grumpy old white men writers
I’ve been listening to some old white men talk about their craft. Finally, we get some air time, huh? Anyway, they are all annoyingly fascinating and, if like me, you love Doctor Who - the Steven Moffat one is essential.

Jermaine Clement - https://youtu.be/KVk_5h8k8Hk

The Power Puff Girls and, in front of them, a man dancing.

[Dance] Can you krump to the Power Puff Girls?
[SPOILER] The answer is yes and I really do recommend watching it.

Spotlight

Hoopla, the biggest and best improv school in London, has very kindly given us the opportunity to run a Pretend Night in its hallowed halls.

It’s be on 10th September at 7:30pm.

The challenge? It’s a new night on a Thursday - so we’re gonna be building an audience from scratch.

The pithy one-liner we’re running with is that at the Omnibus in Clapham - we’re introducing improv to theatre people and at this new night - we’re going to try and introduce theatre to improv people.

LET’S SEE HOW THAT GOES!

Please support this new night and buy early and buy lots.

As a reward you’ll see the following awesome shows:

The Staff Room

Did you like school? Was it an intellectually stimulating journey through the joys of academia, or a hotbed of hormones and poor choices? We all remember our school days…
But those experiences aren’t limited to the classroom. In every school, there is a Staffroom. And in every Staffroom there is a story to be told.

Join The Staffroom, as we take a peek into the lives of teachers when the students aren’t around.

Starring: Teresa Senyah, Tom Jacob-Ewles, Stephen Lee, Jillian Ellis and Sabrina Luisi.

Curious Planet presents A Curious Demise

Someone is dead. Who were they and how did they die? Join A Curious Demise as they wind back the clock to tell an improvised story of life and death.

Starring: Kim Kiernan, Chris Pluthero, Abi Waller, David Brady, Jonathan Coutard, Randy Brown & Caroline Jones.

And the world-renowned Pretend Ensemble

A dream team of international improv superstars creating scenes that are as funny as they are beautiful, deep, surreal and life-affirming.

Tonight the ensemble are: Stephen Lee, James Taverner, Emily Murphy, Emily Kerr and Chris Mead
