Ideal Monday #1 - Gratitude
Why we lead with gratitude
Good afternoon!
So far, I have sent out a few emails with project updates and new features. Going forward, I want to try to enforce some structure around when emails are sent, and what they contain.
Therefore, we will now be sending only 2 emails per week: Ideal Monday and New Feature Friday.
Ideal Monday will share news about the project, journaling and planning tips, and some information about how the app’s research-backed, scientifically proven features can help you to be more productive and feel better.
New Feature Friday will cover all of the new features and improvements which have been added to IdealDay throughout the week.
So for today’s topic: Why do we lead with gratitude?

Ever wondered why your daily plan begins with gratitude instead of your to-do list? It's intentional — and it's backed by some of the most replicated research in positive psychology.
In a foundational study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough found that people who kept a regular gratitude list reported higher well-being across multiple measures compared to those who tracked hassles or neutral events - with effects on positive mood being the most robust finding (Emmons & McCullough, 2003). The benefits compound when it becomes a daily habit. In their daily journaling study, participants who reflected on gratitude reported higher levels of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, attentiveness, and energy — and were more likely to help others — than people focused on complaints or social comparisons. That’s why gratitude comes first. Starting your day by noticing what’s already going well sets the emotional baseline for everything that comes after - your goals, tasks, and decisions.
Like many things in IdealDay, getting into a daily gratitude practice sets you up for success, and has compounding effects when turned into a regular habit!
