Doing too much

Slow launching IdealDay

Recently, I started posting on social media multiple times a day about this project. Mostly on X, and some on LinkedIn and Facebook. On X, I am posting updates with details about what I build each day.

Yesterday, I posted a laundry-list of things I did on X, and got some friendly light criticism about one of my decisions. I had added sitewide security headers to the app, and someone commented hinting that this was a premature step that doesn’t really need to be done before launching.

And the thing is, this person is probably right. I absolutely could launch the app without doing this, and do it later as a post-launch step. In the indie hacker/build in public community, speed to launch is heavily prioritized, and the feedback launch first, polish later is constantly given.

There are lots of things I am doing that I “don’t have to” before launch. Analytics, Error logging and tracking, light SEO. I could skip all this stuff and possibly launch the app 2-3 weeks sooner.

But the thing is, I’m not in a hurry. I want this app to be beautiful, intuitive, and a joy to use on day 1. I want to know about bugs before my users do. I want early adopters to feel like they are getting a white-glove service. Rapid response to feedback. Same-day fixes and new features upon request.

This is my commitment to you. If you try out the app’s free trial and love it, and sign up under our deeply discounted early bird lifetime subscription at launch, I want to hear from you. Your feedback will always be seen and carefully considered.

PS - keep an eye on these emails over the coming weeks for special discounts only available to subscribers and (coming soon) access to our exclusive early adopters community.

I’m here to serve you, and I’m very excited for this thing to GO LIVE! Thank you all for the support 🥳
