Obsidian.md is one of my favorite ways to manage my notes and worldbuilding for Dungeons & Dragons campaigns. Read to the end for a single page guide summarizing my organization principles.
Where to Start
Get started with using Obsidian for D&D and TTRPGs.
How to Organize
Organizing in Obsidian is overwhelming. Instead of talking about the “right way” or listing dozens of tools and extensions, I prefer to focus on what matters: your principles and the bigger picture. Equipped with these articles, you should feel more confident in growing your setup.
The big picture on vaults is important. One vault? Or many?
3 principles to help guide your decisions in Obsidian.
Plugins are shiny and cool. But know about the problem with plugins before you dive in.
Keep your vault simple by understanding the tradeoffs between tags and properties.
Some tools allow you to easily import thousands of references to external content like SRDs. But are they necessary? (No, they’re not)
If you’re just interested in what my organization looks like at high level, you can see bits of my setup in this article.
Plugins
Now that you’re familiar with the problem with plugins, you’re better able to know which to pursue or not. Here are a few of my favorites.
Commander lets you customize your interface to easily access your favorite commands.
Discord Share lets you share content from your vault to Discord. Big features ahead but I hear the author is a clown.
Image Converter saves you space and time by resizing and converting images to friendlier formats.
Linter lets you configure and style notes consistently by setting up rules for what you want.

If you want to dive into the deep end, check out Obsidian TTRPG Tutorials. It can be overwhelming as a lot of it isn’t necessary for using Obsidian but it’s loaded with in-depth guides and neat tools you might find interesting.
