Hello everyone!

Meeting notes from the fourth session on Radin’s Property and Personhood are now online.

Our next call is Thursday, October 29, 11:00 PDT / 14:00 EDT / 19:00 CET, as always in the Protocol Institute Discord, #personhood-research-group channel. Please note that North American and European daylight savings transitions are currently out of sync. If you’re in North America, this one will appear to have moved an hour for you!

For this session we will read Ian Hacking’s “Making up People” - which is about how different “categories” of person get created, and can become self-reinforcing.

There have in fact been two texts by Hacking with this name: the original, from 1986, which I’ve put on our site and this version, from 2006, which I believe has similar arguments with newer examples. Neither version is terribly long or needs an excerpt. Please read whichever (or both) versions interest you - I imagine one of the things we do in the session will be to compare.
