Thanks for your interest in joining the Research Group, and for your patience as I get things set up.

Going through the time preferences from the registration form, there is no single timeslot that accommodates everyone. Instead, we will alternate between Thursdays at 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST and Sundays at 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST, meeting every two weeks. That will make our next sessions:

• Thurs Sept 3 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST

• Sun Sept 13 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST

• Thurs Oct 1 10:00 PDT/ 13:00 EDT/ 19:00 CEST

• Sun Oct 11 8:00 PDT/ 11:00 EDT/ 17:00 CEST

We will meet in the Protocol Institute Discord, in a channel that will be called #personhood-research-group.

Please note there will be an AI note-taker in the channel, which will summarize our call. These meeting notes will be published to a git repo and static website for the research group, but only after names/usernames have been removed (lightly speaking, Chatham House).

Loose agenda for the first session:

• Intro to the Research Group and Protocol Institute and Group Intros (20-25 min).

• Introduction to our first text, Should Trees Have Standing, and silent co-reading of Sierra Club v. Morton (15-20 min)

• Collecting Research Questions and future reading suggestions from participants (15-20 min)

For session 2, we will look more closely at Should Trees Have Standing by Christopher Stone. It’s from 1972 and is, I think, quite foundational to the questions of this research group. It’s a little longer, 50ish pages, so I’ll send out an excerpt before the Sept 13 session, but if you want to take a look, the full text is already online here.
