Source: supercarblondie.com Short SpotMerging SpaceX, Tesla makes more sense for Musk than its investors: The Hindu The proposed merger of SpaceX and Tesla aligns more closely with Musk’s personal incentives than with returns for Tesla shareholders. The structure would concentrate control and value in ways that favor the founder over diversified public ownership. Investors would face diluted exposure to Tesla’s core automotive and energy businesses without clear operational synergies. The move tests whether governance rules can constrain founder-led consolidation across separate public and private entities. Source: thehindu.com Tesla First PrinciplesLarge-scale Supercharger sites expose a basic constraint that vehicle range numbers rarely capture. The Lost Hills installation covers 30 acres with 164 stalls fed by an 11 MW solar array and ten Megapacks. That configuration turns the charger itself into a small power plant rather than a simple tap on the grid. Once the number of stalls exceeds what local utilities can reliably supply, on-site generation and storage become the limiting factor on how many vehicles can charge at once. The first 84 stalls opened in July 2025, with the full build completed in late November 2025, showing how quickly capacity can scale when solar and storage are integrated from the start. The economics shift when solar and storage are sized to match stall count. Eleven megawatts of solar and ten Megapacks represent capital that must be recovered through utilization fees rather than through vehicle sales. Each additional stall increases both potential revenue and the required buffer of stored energy for evening and overnight peaks. The design therefore rewards sites that can maintain high throughput across twenty hours rather than those that simply add more plugs. Rows of covered stalls, solar canopies, and pull-through bays for trailers further illustrate how the physical layout supports continuous operation rather than peak-hour spikes alone. Over time the same logic applies to any region where fast-charging demand grows faster than grid upgrades. Operators who control both the vehicles and the charging hardware can match generation capacity to fleet size without waiting for external approvals. Those who rely on third-party chargers face utilization limits set by someone else’s investment schedule. The 164-stall example shows the scale at which that difference becomes measurable in daily energy throughput rather than in marketing claims. Non-Tesla EVs that support the North American Charging Standard widen the customer base and accelerate payback on the on-site generation investment. Feedback welcome at @teslashortstime. |
