The incoming galaxy's stars were dynamically heated and mixed over cosmic time, which is why they no longer look like a coherent dwarf, only like a statistical excess with the right labels. The work continues. Spectroscopic follow-up of more halo stars is planned to refine the original dwarf's mass and orbit, and cluster chemistry is being cross-checked against Gaia motions.
