Issue #4 - The cold email sender that makes unlimited inboxes its whole personality — and mostly delivers on it.
What it is
Instantly solves the "how do I send 10,000 cold emails without hitting spam folders" problem. It does not solve the "who should I be emailing" problem. Keep that distinction in your head and the tool makes total sense. You connect as many sending inboxes as you want, build multi-step sequences, let the built-in warmup run in the background, and manage all replies in one unified inbox called Unibox. Setup is fast and beginner-friendly — users consistently call it one of the fastest cold email tools to get running, even without technical experience. The interface is clean, and you can have campaigns live in under an hour.
Where it sits in the stack
The platform covers the full outbound motion: lead sourcing via the built-in database, automated multi-step sequences, AI-powered personalization, reply management via Unibox, and pipeline tracking via the CRM layer. In practice, most GTM teams use it as the sending and inbox management layer, sitting downstream of Clay or Apollo for enrichment, and upstream of HubSpot or Salesforce for CRM. Native CRM integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, and Pipedrive are included on every plan. It most directly competes with — and is constantly compared to — Smartlead.
Three workflows people actually run
1. High-volume cold email with inbox rotation — Pull a verified list from Clay or Apollo. Import leads (CSV or API) into an Instantly campaign. Connect 10–30 sending inboxes across 3–5 domains. Unlimited connected email accounts with unlimited warmup are included on all plans — this matters because cold email deliverability depends on spreading volume across multiple inboxes. A single inbox sending 100 emails per day will get flagged; ten inboxes sending 10 each stays under the radar. Set send limits per inbox (typically 30–40/day), let the sequence run, and watch Unibox for replies. Multi-inbox sending works as advertised — you never hit Gmail or Outlook sending limits because Instantly spreads volume across all connected inboxes automatically.
2. A/B testing copy at scale — Build two or more subject line and body variants inside the campaign builder. Hypergrowth unlocks optimization tools like A/B testing with 100,000 emails per month. Fair warning: A/Z testing is locked behind the $97/month Hypergrowth tier — Smartlead and Lemlist both include A/B testing on their entry-level plans. Once you're on the right tier, run variants across your inbox pool, let statistical significance accumulate (aim for 200+ sends per variant), and promote the winner. Feed results back into Clay or your enrichment layer to refine persona-level copy.
3. AI reply handling + Unibox triage — The AI Sequence Generator, AI reply suggestions, AI inbox manager, and natural language SuperSearch all save meaningful time — these are not novelty additions, they are baked into the core workflow. Turn on the AI Reply Agent to handle initial responses (interest, out-of-office, unsubscribes). Instantly Credits power AI features, lead verification (0.25 credits/lead), enrichment (0.5 credits/contact), and the AI Reply Agent (5 credits/reply). Credit packages start at $9/month for 150 credits up to $197/month for 10,000 credits. Credits are separate from Outreach plans and required if you use any AI or verification features. Human reps handle only positive replies — everything else is auto-sorted. Wire positive replies via webhook into HubSpot to create contacts and trigger sequences in your actual CRM. You can also connect Pipedrive with Instantly to trigger real-time automations directly from your CRM — trigger automations when a deal is updated, trigger workflows when a new lead is created, and sync or route contacts when records are updated.
What it costs
The pricing model is modular: Outreach (the email sending product), Instantly Credits (the lead database), and CRM are three core subscriptions, with additional paid modules available for Website Visitors, Inbox Placement, DFY Services, and Pre-Warmed Accounts.
Outreach plans (annual billing):
- Growth: $30/mo — 5,000 emails/month, unlimited email accounts
- Hypergrowth: $77.60/mo — 25,000 emails/month, unlimited email accounts
- Light Speed: $286/mo — 500,000 emails/month, unlimited email accounts
Monthly billing starts at $47/mo for Growth. Annual billing saves 20% across all tiers.
The gotchas:
- The Growth plan caps at 1,000 uploaded contacts total across all campaigns, not per campaign. Most SDR teams burn through that in a week.
- Unlimited email accounts is the headline, but actual sending capacity is governed by plan-level limits. Adding inboxes alone does not increase volume — higher sending needs require plan upgrades or add-ons, not just more accounts.
- Full stack minimum (outreach + leads + CRM) costs $37 + $47 + $47 = $131/month. A mid-tier setup runs closer to $220/month.
- Credits are a parallel burn. Every AI email generated consumes credits. Web research eats credits too. Your actual verified lead count will be lower than expected.
- Instantly's own public sources currently show conflicting figures for the Hypergrowth email allowance — the pricing page states 100,000 emails per month, while the help center states 125,000. Confirm the current figure directly with Instantly before committing.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Use Instantly if you're a solo founder, small SDR team, or agency running pure email outreach and want the fastest path from zero to a live campaign. Instantly's volume-based pricing model differs from traditional per-seat CRM pricing — instead of paying more as your sales team grows, you pay based on email volume, so a 20-person team and a 5-person team can operate on the same subscription tier if they're sending similar volumes. That math gets very good, very fast at team scale.
Skip Instantly (or at least don't replace Smartlead with it) if you're an agency managing 5+ clients who need isolated billing, workspace separation, and granular deliverability controls. Instantly wins on UI polish and its built-in lead database; Smartlead wins on deliverability infrastructure and agency economics.
At the mid tier, Smartlead Pro ($94) and Instantly Hypergrowth ($97) land within $3 of each other — the real cost gap shows up in opens, not invoices, with Reddit operators consistently reporting 30–40% open-rate drops on Instantly's shared warmup pool. Also worth knowing: outreach is limited to email unless you upgrade to the top-tier CRM plan — there's no native LinkedIn support, no orchestration of multi-channel sequences, and no visual workflow builder.
