Issue #32 - The CRM built for founders who hate setting up CRMs
What it is
Most CRMs are designed for a 50-person sales org with a RevOps admin on staff. folk is not that. It's a collaborative CRM designed for startups, agencies, and small teams that prioritize speed and simplicity over structural depth. The workspace feels closer to Notion than a traditional sales database — contacts live in flexible lists, pipelines are visual and drag-and-drop, and the whole system is built to be shared across a team without setup friction.
A single folk workspace can hold a sales pipeline, an investor pipeline, a recruiting tracker, and a partnership list — all managed with the same familiar interface. If you've been living in a spreadsheet and know you should graduate from it, folk is the least painful CRM to actually commit to.
Where it sits in the stack
The platform syncs conversations across email, calendar, and WhatsApp, supports email sequences and pipeline tracking, and connects to 5,000+ tools via Zapier and Make. It lives in the CRM layer but encroaches on light enrichment too. Its value comes from combining relationship management, LinkedIn contact capture, contact enrichment, email outreach, WhatsApp context, and AI-assisted data organization. It most commonly pairs with Apollo or Clay for heavier enrichment, Zapier/Make for automation, and replaces spreadsheet-based relationship trackers or a stripped-down HubSpot setup.
Three workflows people actually run
1. LinkedIn-to-pipeline in under 60 seconds — The killer feature is folkX, a Chrome extension that lets you pull contact data directly from LinkedIn profiles, company pages, and even LinkedIn Sales Navigator results into your CRM with a single click. From there, folk's Magic Fields, an AI feature, auto-fills contact details like company size, industry, or location based on available data. Tag the contact to a pipeline stage (e.g., "To Reach Out"), and you're done. No copy-pasting. No tab-switching. Pairs well with Sales Navigator for list-building, and with Prospeo or Apollo if you need verified email addresses that folk's enrichment doesn't surface.
2. Agency client management across multiple pipelines — If you work in a team, folk supports collaborative selling out of the box. It offers shared pipelines, role-based permissions, and the ability to mention teammates or leave notes on contacts. Everyone stays on the same page with a single, up-to-date contact list, instead of juggling separate spreadsheets. An agency running new business, active retainers, and partnership sourcing can manage all three as separate groups in one workspace. Incoming and outgoing emails, meetings, and WhatsApp messages auto-log to the contact timeline — no manual logging. When a deal closes, move it to a "Delivery" group. Everyone sees the same record.
3. Founder-led outbound with AI-drafted sequences — On Premium, the AI sequence builder generates outreach from persona and goal inputs, which reduces the time spent drafting cold messages from scratch. The workflow: import a CSV of prospects (or capture them from LinkedIn via folkX), run enrichment to fill gaps, segment into a group by ICP, then trigger a multi-step sequence directly from folk with replies syncing back into the contact record. Research notes are powered by trusted providers like People Data Labs (enrichment) and Perplexity (research notes) — meaning you can generate a context-aware first line without leaving the CRM. For higher-volume sending, route sequences through a dedicated sending domain and pair with a deliverability tool like Instantly or Smartlead.
What it costs
Folk has three tiers in 2026, all priced per seat per month. Annual billing saves roughly 20% versus monthly. Annual prices: Standard $24, Premium $48, and Custom from $80. On monthly billing, plans cost roughly 25% more ($30/$60/$100).
Standard includes pipeline management, email campaigns (up to 2,000 sends per user per month), the folkX Chrome extension, email/calendar/WhatsApp sync, contact enrichment, AI Assistants, and Magic Fields. What's not included: deal management (custom objects), email sequences, dashboards, API access, and advanced roles and permissions.
Premium adds custom objects with deal management, email sequences (multi-step automated follow-ups), dashboards, API access, and advanced roles and permissions.
The gotchas:
- Enrichment credits are shared workspace-wide on Standard: 500 credits per month for the entire team, not per user. A three-person team doing any volume of outbound burns through that in the first week or two. Premium bumps it to 1,000 — still shared.
- Deal management is gated behind Premium, and the price doubles the moment you need core sales features.
- The real reason to look elsewhere is when your total stack cost — folk plus Zapier plus the Premium upgrade — starts exceeding what one consolidated platform would cost. The number that matters in your folk budget is not the $24 seat price; it is the combined spend on the plan upgrade, the Zapier subscription, and any enrichment top-ups.
- As of 2026, folk is browser-only — the most common complaint across G2 and Capterra reviews.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Use folk if: folk is the right fit if your team is under five people, outreach volume is low, and LinkedIn prospecting via the folkX Chrome extension is central to your daily workflow. It also works well for agencies managing relationship-heavy client pipelines, and for founders juggling investors, partners, and prospects in the same tool. Setup time is under an hour versus a week or more for HubSpot.
Skip folk if: Folk starts to feel limited when your operations grow and you need your CRM to actually talk to your other tools in any meaningful way. Their API is fairly light, so if you're planning to build integrations with your accounting software or automate workflows beyond basic email sequences, you will likely feel limited.
Close is better for calling-heavy sales operations. If you need revenue forecasting, weighted pipeline views, or a mobile app, look at Attio or Pipedrive instead.
