EmailGuard in 5 minutes

Issue #18 - The deliverability monitoring layer your cold email stack is missing

What it is

EmailGuard is a deliverability monitoring platform built for cold emailers and agencies — not to be confused with MailGuard, which is an email security product. The problem it solves: you've built a sequence, verified your list, and launched your campaign. Then reply rates crater. You have no idea if your emails are hitting primary inboxes, promotions tabs, or spam folders. EmailGuard monitors your email infrastructure and tests whether your messages land in the inbox or spam — covering the full deliverability stack: SPF/DKIM/DMARC authentication checks, blacklist monitoring, inbox placement testing, and spam scoring across 162 data points. It also ships a feature most competitors skip entirely: domain masking proxies.

Where it sits in the stack

This is a deliverability layer tool, sitting between your sending infrastructure and your sequencer. As part of your GTM stack, EmailGuard complements CRMs and email service providers by ensuring emails succeed beyond sending. It does not handle email campaign creation, data enrichment, or direct marketing communications — it focuses purely on the backend email health and security side. It pairs naturally with cold email sequencers like Smartlead or Instantly, and replaces the patchwork of separate DMARC monitors plus blacklist checkers most teams cobble together. The only documented native integration is with EmailBison , but the API lets you wire it into broader workflows.

Three workflows people actually run

1. Pre-send inbox placement check — Before launching a new sequence in Smartlead or Instantly, pull a sample of your copy and run it through EmailGuard's inbox placement test. Perform ad-hoc or scheduled inbox placement tests for top email providers to ensure you're landing in the inbox, and get insights into how your emails are handled by different email providers. Then paste the same copy into the spam checker: check your email content for spam triggers and get a spam score — the higher the score, the more likely your email will be flagged as spam — then get a list of the top spam words and remove them. Fix the copy, re-test, launch. This loop takes 20 minutes and catches the stuff your sequencer won't tell you.

2. Multi-domain agency health monitoring — If you're managing cold email infrastructure for multiple clients, connect all their sending domains into EmailGuard. Blacklist monitoring continuously checks if your domain or IP addresses are listed on any blacklists, providing instant notifications and guidance for delisting. Pair this with DMARC insights and reports for all your domains in one place, with access to historical DMARC data and a complete timeline of passes and fails. When a client's domain gets blacklisted at 2am, you find out before they do. Scale this across the Agency plan's 200-domain limit.

3. Domain masking for primary domain protection — If you're running cold outreach at scale, the 0.3% spam complaint threshold from Gmail and Yahoo can torch your primary domain fast — three complaints per thousand emails is all it takes. Set up EmailGuard's domain masking proxy so your outbound sending runs through secondary domains. EmailGuard lets you mask your primary domain behind secondary domains on clean shared IPs or a dedicated IP, with managed SSL and full API access for programmatic domain management. Your website and transactional email stay untouched while the cold outreach takes the heat. This is the workflow agencies actually pay for.

What it costs

Free Plan — 1 domain, 3 email accounts, basic monitoring. Pro: $49/month — up to 25 domains and 100 email accounts, includes domain masking proxies. Business: $129/month — up to 75 domains and 300 email accounts. Agency: $199/month — up to 200 domains and 1,000 email accounts.

Gotchas to know:

  • The free plan gives you 10 spam-filter email tests per month, unlimited DMARC monitoring, and weekly automated blacklist monitoring — but you don't get placement tests or domain masking, the two features most teams actually pay for.
  • The dedicated redirect IP add-on runs $100/month. If you're running masking proxies on shared IPs and want full control, that upsell pushes your real cost to $149/month on Pro.
  • Contact verification credits are basic — 50 on free, 3,000 on Pro — and won't cut it for serious list cleaning. Agencies have been known to burn through Pro credits in the first week. Budget for a dedicated verifier (ZeroBounce, Prospeo, etc.) alongside this.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)

If you're running 25+ sending domains, EmailGuard Pro at $49/month replaces two separate tools.

It's the right fit for cold email agencies, sales teams, and email marketers who want to increase deliverability, protect secondary domains, and avoid spam. The domain masking proxy alone makes Pro worth a look if you've ever had a primary domain dinged by a spam complaint spike.

Skip it if you only need occasional placement testing and don't care about domain masking — if you only need placement tests, GlockApps gives you more credits per dollar. Also worth noting: placement test accuracy has been questioned — one Reddit user running weekly tests across GlockApps, Folderly, and EmailGuard reported huge deviations, with GlockApps showing 100% Outlook spam while EmailGuard showed everything landing in inbox. Treat placement results as directional, not definitive. Run a second tool if Outlook placement is critical to your motion.
