This weekend in Norwalk: two lighthouses in one cruise, a jazz quintet on West Avenue, and The Wild Robot on the beach

Happy Thursday. The Seaport Association runs its combined Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island trip on Saturday, the last of three this season and the only way to get inside both lighthouses in one morning. Sunday brings a five piece jazz group to the Norwalk Art Space. And early voting for the August 11 primary runs through Sunday at City Hall, so the civic errand and the fun both fit in the same weekend.

Best for families this weekend: the free outdoor screening of The Wild Robot at Calf Pasture Beach on Friday, and Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them at the library on Saturday morning.

Marine and Coastal Art at the Rowayton Arts Center, 145 Rowayton Avenue (Rowayton). The center's exhibiting members hung this show on July 26 and it stays up through August 23. Gallery hours are noon to 5 PM Tuesday through Friday and 10 AM to 1 PM Saturday and Sunday, so the weekend window is the narrow one. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

Paddle for the Sound closes Sunday, August 9. Save the Sound's ten day fundraiser ends this weekend. You launch a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard from wherever you like, log the miles, and raise money for clean water work across Long Island Sound. The suggested goal is $150 per paddler. If you have been meaning to get out on the water anyway, this is the last weekend it counts for something. Registration required, all experience levels, outdoors. Details.

Mahjong for Beginners, Session 2 at the Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue, 10:30 to 11:30 AM. Second week of the four week summer run. Free, adults. Details.

Free outdoor movie: The Wild Robot at Calf Pasture Beach, 1 Calf Pasture Beach Road, starting around 8:45 PM at dusk. Bring chairs and blankets and get there before the light goes. Free admission, standard beach parking fees apply, kids welcome, outdoors. Details.

Paint Night at the Beach at Calf Pasture Beach, 1 Calf Pasture Beach Road, 6:30 to 8 PM. You paint a 16 by 20 beach scene and finish it with shells. It runs right up against the movie start, so this is the ambitious version of Friday night at the Point. $35 per person, ages 12 and up, registration required, outdoors. Details.

Sunset cruise with the Norwalk Seaport Association departing 90 Water Street (South Norwalk). Two hours round trip, capped at 49 passengers, bring your own food and drink along with cups and an opener. Ticketed, all ages, outdoors. Details.

Early voting for the August 11 primary is open at City Hall through Sunday. Two races are on the ballot. Democrats pick a candidate for governor between Gov. Ned Lamont of Greenwich and State Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden. Republicans in the 4th Congressional District choose between Michael Goldstein, a physician and attorney, and Daniel Miressi, a former professional hockey player. Early voting runs through August 9 at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Avenue, from 10 AM to 6 PM most days and 8 AM to 8 PM on Thursday. Someone is emailing fake Planning and Zoning invoices with the city seal on them. Norwalk Police Chief James Walsh and Mayor Barbara Smyth warned residents about messages sent from [email protected] that carry the official city seal and an itemized invoice for a department application, then demand payment by wire transfer. Each one asks for close to $6,000. Police have taken eight to 10 reports over the past year, and none of the attempts got a transfer through. Real city email ends in @norwalkct.gov. The Oyster Festival has its lineup: Lita Ford, Parmalee, and a Van Halen tribute. The 48th annual festival returns to Veterans Memorial Park September 11 through 13, with Lita Ford on Friday, Parmalee on Saturday, and JUMP: America's Van Halen Experience on Sunday. Cruise and tour to Greens Ledge and Sheffield Island Lighthouse departing 90 Water Street (South Norwalk) at 8:30 AM, back at 1:30 PM. This is the trip worth clearing a Saturday for, and it is the last of the three combined runs this season. The Norwalk Seaport Association and the Greens Ledge Light Preservation Society operate it together, and you get about ninety minutes inside each lighthouse rather than the usual single stop. Greens Ledge was finished in 1902 to guide boats through the rocky shoals at the west mouth of the harbor, it is on the National Register, and it is one of only 33 spark plug lighthouses left in the country. Every passenger needs a ticket regardless of age, Coast Guard rules, and these sell out. Ticketed, all ages, outdoors. Details.

Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them with the Stamford Nature Center at the Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue, 11 AM. Live animals, and the framing does the heavy lifting with kids who would not sit still for a straight nature talk. Free, kids welcome, indoors. Details.

Community clean up at Dr. Ruby Shaw Elementary School, 9:30 AM to noon. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

45 minute guided house tour at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, 295 West Avenue, 1 to 1:45 PM. The short version of the tour, running through September 6. Ticketed, all ages, indoors. Details.

Jazz at the Art Space: the Greg Wall and Josh Bruneau Quintet at the Norwalk Art Space, 455 West Avenue, 5 to 7 PM. Wall plays tenor and soprano saxophone and has spent a career moving between the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, Carnegie Hall, and a pulpit, which is how he ended up known as the jazz rabbi. Bruneau is one of the better trumpet players in New England. They are joined by Kenny Wessel on guitar, Matt Dwonszyk on bass, and David Alvarez on drums. Names like these do not usually turn up on West Avenue on a Sunday afternoon. $45 plus a $1.13 service fee, all ages, indoors. Details.

The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum holds its 19th annual Old Fashioned Flea Market Sunday, September 13, 10 AM to 4 PM at Mathews Park. Trustee Lisa Pisano Henderson and Education Coordinator Heather Dunn are co-chairing it, with antiques, classic cars from the Connecticut Seaport Car Club, food trucks, and $5 mansion tours from noon to 4.
