This weekend in Norwalk: Jordan Jensen at District, Billy and The Showmen at Calf Pasture, and the ferry running twice a day to Sheffield Island

Happy Thursday. The primary is done, the signs are coming off the lawns, and Norwalk gets a weekend that is all beach and boat. Jordan Jensen brings her tour to District Music Hall on Saturday. The Third Taxing District series is back on at Calf Pasture Sunday after taking last week off, with Billy and The Showmen. And the Sheffield Island ferry is running two sailings a day right through the weekend, which is the version of this trip that does not require clearing your whole Saturday.

Best for families this weekend: Slimy and Scaly, the Stamford Nature Center's live animal show at the library Saturday morning, and either Sheffield Island ferry run.

Marine and Coastal Art at the Rowayton Arts Center, 145 Rowayton Avenue (Rowayton). The exhibiting members' show is up through August 23, so you have this weekend and next. Gallery hours are noon to 5 PM Tuesday through Friday and 10 AM to 1 PM Saturday and Sunday. That weekend window is the tight one, so go early. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

The Sheffield Island Lighthouse ferry, departing 90 Water Street (South Norwalk). Two sailings a day through August 30, at 10 AM and 2 PM, about three hours round trip with an hour and a half on the island. Boats leave promptly and the Seaport Association asks you at the dock 30 minutes early, which is not a suggestion when the boat is the only way back. Every passenger needs a ticket regardless of age, Coast Guard rules. Ticketed, all ages, outdoors. Details.

Gov. Ned Lamont won Tuesday's Democratic primary and will face a Greenwich Republican in November. The Associated Press called it shortly after polls closed at 8 PM, with Lamont taking nearly two thirds of the vote against State Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden at 20 percent counted. In November he faces Ryan Fazio, the 36 year old state senator from Greenwich. In the 4th Congressional District Republican primary, physician and attorney Michael Goldstein beat former professional hockey player Daniel Miressi and will challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes. Ely Avenue is getting a $70,000 mural and the Arts Commission wants you to have opinions about it. The city awarded the contract for "Fabric of the City" to artist Jahmane West, with completion targeted for the end of 2026. The Arts Commission chairman framed it as a way to re-engage a public that has not had much to react to lately, which is a refreshingly honest thing for a commission to admit out loud. The city has collected $5.2 million in back taxes ahead of the August 24 tax sale. This is Norwalk's 12th tax sale since 2003, and the collections figure is the point: the threat of the sale does most of the work before the gavel ever comes down. Billy and The Showmen at Calf Pasture Beach, 1 Calf Pasture Beach Road (East Norwalk), 5 to 7 PM. The Third Taxing District's Sunday series took August 9 off, so this is the first of the two remaining dates. The Showmen play rhythm and blues and horn driven soul, and this is the show that fills the lawn every year it comes around. Bring a chair. No rain date. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

The Kathy Thompson Band plays the city's Wednesday concert series at Calf Pasture Beach on August 19 at 7 PM, free. Worth keeping straight: the city runs Wednesday nights, the Third Taxing District runs Sundays, and they use the same beach. Details.

Benny and the Jets closes the Third Taxing District series Sunday, August 23, 5 to 7 PM at Calf Pasture. No rain date, same as every week. Details.
