This weekend in Norwalk: the boat show takes Norwalk Cove, Harmony's last three shows at MTC, and the Black Heritage Parade fills Washington Street

Four days of boats at Calf Pasture, a Broadway cast closing out a show on Route 1, and a parade and festival taking over Washington Street Plaza for seven hours. This is the fullest weekend Norwalk has had since the Oyster Festival, and it is the last one before the East Norwalk station goes dark. If you ride that train, read the middle section before you make plans.

Best for families this weekend: Stew Leonard's parks its trucks on Westport Avenue Saturday morning and lets kids climb on them, and the Black Heritage Parade runs all day in SoNo with marching bands and youth groups. The boat show is free for anyone 12 and under with a paid adult.

The Discover Boating Norwalk Boat Show at Norwalk Cove Marina, 48 Calf Pasture Beach Road, Thursday through Saturday 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM. Four days of boats in the water and on land, free guided show tours for people who have no idea what they are looking at, on-water training, and a vendor village. Admission is $20 for adults 18 and over, $10 for ages 13 to 17, and free for kids 12 and under with a paid adult. Thursday only, admission is free for active and veteran military, active and retired first responders, and United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary members. Go Thursday if you actually want to talk to anyone; by Saturday the docks are shoulder to shoulder. Ticketed, kids welcome, outdoors. Details.

"Harmony" closes at Music Theatre of Connecticut, MTC MainStage, 509 Westport Avenue (Route 1). Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Sunday at 2 PM. The Comedian Harmonists story has been on that stage since September 11 and September 27 is the last performance, which is already sold out. That leaves three chances, two of them on Saturday. Constantine Pappas from the original Broadway cast is still playing the Young Rabbi in a room that seats a fraction of what Broadway does. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

Buzzcocks with Minds Eye at District Music Hall, 71 Wall Street, doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Fifty years on from Manchester and the band is playing a 500-capacity room on Wall Street. Norwalk gets shows like this because the room is the right size, not because the city is on anybody's must-play list, and that is the whole argument for buying a ticket. Ticketed, indoors. Details.

Social Security Video Connect at the Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue, 10 AM to noon. A live video appointment with a Social Security representative without driving to Bridgeport. Free, adults, indoors. Details.

The East Norwalk train station closes Saturday and stays closed until October 19. Work starts September 26 and runs about three weeks: utility work, platform and track extensions so the platform fits six cars instead of four, new canopies, accessibility upgrades, parking lot work and a dedicated drop-off lane. Free rides on the #5 bus from East Norwalk to the South Norwalk station begin Monday, September 28, which means the first weekend of the closure has no bus at all. Permit parkers can use South Norwalk, the New Haven bound lot stays open, and there are overflow lots at 10 Rowan Street and 182 East Avenue. Diane Cece of the East Norwalk Neighborhood Association was blunt about it: "To ask our residents again to use SoNo station but not provide shuttles is ridiculous." The City Council passed the honorary street naming rewrite Tuesday night, unanimously. We flagged this vote last week. The version that passed drops the proposed requirement that two thirds of a street's residents sign off and asks applicants to show what they did to notify neighbors instead. Public service, military service, humanitarian work and historical significance are guides rather than hard tests, an honoree has to have been deceased at least a year, and each sign costs the city about $1,100. Statewide Gun Buyback and Gun Safe Giveaway Day returns October 3, and Norwalk Police are hosting a site. It is voluntary, no questions asked, and participants can pick up a free gun safe or lock. Norwalk's Black Heritage Parade at Washington Street Plaza, 50 Washington Street (SoNo), 10 AM to 5 PM. The African American Association of Norwalk runs it: marching bands, local performers, community leaders and youth groups, then a festival on the plaza for the rest of the day. Seven hours on Washington Street is not a parade, it is a block party with a parade attached, and it is the best free thing happening in this city on Saturday. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

Stew Leonard's Touch-a-Truck at Stew Leonard's, 100 Westport Avenue, 10 AM to noon. Not the same one the Public Works Center ran last weekend. This is the grocery store's own annual version in its parking lot, which means the trucks are different and the line moves faster. Free, kids welcome, outdoors. Details.

Boy Harsher with Choir Boy and Evanora Unlimited at District Music Hall, 71 Wall Street, doors at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Darkwave out of Massachusetts, all ages, and the second night in a row District has booked something a city this size has no business getting. Ticketed, all ages, indoors. Details.

90 Minute Guided House Tour at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, 295 West Avenue, noon. The "Revolutionary Roots" exhibition is up through January and covers the Lockwood and Mathews ancestors who fought in the Revolution, which is a stranger and better story than the usual Gilded Age tour. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

Weekly Wellness Walk at Calf Pasture Beach, 129 Calf Pasture Beach Road. A community walk on the beach road, and the boat show is happening a few hundred yards away, so plan the parking accordingly. Free, all ages, outdoors. Details.

The boat show's last day at Norwalk Cove Marina, 48 Calf Pasture Beach Road, 10 AM to 5 PM. Two hours shorter than the other three days, and Sunday afternoon at a boat show is when exhibitors start making deals they would not make on Thursday. Ticketed, kids welcome, outdoors. Details.
