This weekend in Norwalk: Harmony's second weekend at MTC, Touch a Truck at Public Works, and a Sunday flea at Spacecat

The Oyster Festival did not get its Sunday. The Norwalk Seaport Association closed the festival on September 13 because of the weather, which means a lot of people in this city still have an unspent weekend in them. This one is quieter and closer to the ground: a Broadway transplant in its second weekend on Route 1, the city parking its fire engines and plow trucks in a yard on South Smith Street and daring kids to climb in, and a thrift market inside a brewery in SoNo. One practical note before anything else. Best for families this weekend: Touch a Truck at the Public Works Center on Saturday morning, then the free Prenatal to Five Resource Fair at The SoNo Collection a few minutes away. Space Jam on the big screen at the library on Sunday closes the loop.

"Harmony" at Music Theatre of Connecticut, MTC MainStage, 509 Westport Avenue (Route 1). Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and 8 PM, Sunday at 2 PM. This is the true story of the Comedian Harmonists, all tight harmonies and sharp comedy, and it runs 2 hours and 25 minutes with one 15 minute intermission. Constantine Pappas, from the original Broadway cast, plays the Young Rabbi, and Frank Mastrone plays the Rabbi. Opening weekend is behind it, the closing performance is September 27, and that leaves exactly two weekends to see a Broadway cast member in a room this size. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

Night at the Races at BanC House, 16 River Street, 6:30 to 10:30 PM. BJ Ryan's runs it: wagering on real horse races that have already been run, odds games, a cocktail hour with passed appetizers until 7:30, then roast chicken and pork loin with the BanC House sides, and an open bar the whole night. Open Mic Night at Factory Underground Studio, same address, sign ups in person starting at 6:30 PM. Music, poetry, comedy and spoken word, six minutes per act, and an RSVP does not get you a slot. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

Next Stop Comedy at Spacecat Brewing Co., 57 Chestnut Street (SoNo), 7 PM. A rotating bill of touring stand ups in a taproom five minutes on foot from the South Norwalk station, so nobody has to drive home from the punchlines. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

The Walk Bridge towers are coming down, and this weekend is one of the two hardest on trains. Crews started taking apart the two 234 foot steel towers over the Norwalk River on the weekend of September 12. They went up in 1896 and are being replaced by lift towers roughly 100 feet shorter. Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto called it "the start of a dramatic change to the city of Norwalk's skyline." There are five weekend outages through November 1, with two more weekends held for weather. For September 19 and 20, CTDOT says diesel trains will run between Grand Central and New Haven about every 90 minutes through the work zone, with roughly 55 percent fewer seats than a normal weekend. Six Norwalk schools started the year with $36 million in new heating and cooling. Brien McMahon High School, Brookside, Marvin, Rowayton, Naramake and Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School all got new boilers, chillers, rooftop units or air conditioning before the 2026 to 2027 school year, and McMahon's gym upgrade matters beyond school hours because the building doubles as an emergency shelter. The state is reimbursing about $21 million at an enhanced 60 percent rate. Mayor Barbara Smyth, a former English teacher, said she has "firsthand experience of being in classrooms that did not have appropriate HVAC," meaning heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The City Council votes Tuesday, September 22 on how Norwalk hands out honorary street names. The rewritten ordinance drops a proposed requirement that two thirds of a street's residents sign off, and asks applicants instead to show the efforts they made to notify the people who live there. Public service, military service, humanitarian work and historical significance become guides rather than hard rules, an honoree must have been deceased for at least a year, and each naming costs the city roughly $1,100. Open House and Touch a Truck at the Public Works Center, 15 South Smith Street, 9 AM to noon. Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical services crews and Public Works staff bring out the vehicles that keep this city running, and kids get to climb into the ones they normally only see going past with the lights on. Bring a can of something: the city is collecting non perishable food for the Open Doors pantry. The best free morning in Norwalk this month, and it is not close. Free, kids welcome, outdoors. Prenatal to Five Resource Fair in the Magnificent Room at The SoNo Collection, 100 North Water Street (SoNo), 10 AM to 1 PM. Maternal health, early childhood development, child care and preschool options, WIC (the Women, Infants and Children nutrition program) and recreation services under one roof, with activities for kids and giveaways. Parking is $2 for up to nine hours with the code FAMILY. Free, kids welcome, indoors. Details.

Mahjong Midsummer Classic at the United Church of Rowayton Community Center, 210 Rowayton Avenue (Rowayton), 11 AM to 2 PM. A fundraiser for Shakespeare on the Sound, with instruction for beginners, food and drinks included. $100 in advance, $125 at the door, and space is limited. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

Crafting for Adults: Mosaic Coasters in Studio One at the Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue, 11 AM to noon. Fifteen seats, all materials included, and you leave with a set of coasters. Registration required, adults, indoors. Details.

Kinusaiga Art Workshop at Diana Margarette Bouquets, 97 Wall Street, 5 to 7 PM. A traditional Japanese fabric art where you press small pieces of fabric into a cut foam design. No sewing, materials included. Ticketed, adults, indoors. Details.

South Norwalk Flea Near Me Thrift Market at Spacecat Brewing Co., 57 Chestnut Street (SoNo), 11 AM to 3 PM. More than 25 vendors with vintage clothing, streetwear, jewelry and art, a full bar, free parking and a freebie for the early crowd. Thrifting with a pint in hand is the correct way to spend a Sunday in SoNo. Free, all ages, indoors. Details.

Movie Weekends: Space Jam in the auditorium at the Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue. Doors at 1 PM, film shortly after 1:30, free snacks, presented with the Norwalk Film Festival. The movie turns 30 this year, which will make some parents in the room feel something. Rated PG. Free, kids welcome, indoors. Details.

The Norwalk Boat Show takes over Norwalk Cove Marina September 24 to 27, $20 for adults, $10 for ages 13 to 17, and free for kids 12 and under with a paid adult. Details.
