Greetings from Vegas

I’m currently in Vegas to collect an award! 🎉

The Ruby community has changed my life, so to get this recognition means a lot to me. 🥹

I came here a few days earlier than originally planned since I was bringing my dad with me and wanted some time to explore before the conference kicked off.

Yesterday morning we went on a short guided hike in the Red Rock Canyon, starting and stopping early to avoid the 100°F temperatures!

Today we’ll head out to the strip and see what’s changed in the 23 years since we were last there.

Trending Unawares

On July 2nd, I was doing my routine social media catch-up when I noticed a strange response on Threads to a question from one of our users asking if it was possible for StoryGraph’s monthly wrap-up to include in-progress books:

I raised my eyebrows, briefly wondered how this person became so misinformed, and then said “Oh well, I’m not going to say anything. Either it’ll get no attention or our community will come and set the record straight.”

The next day I found out that this whole thing had blown up and that we were trending:

I knew our users would set the record straight, but I was blown away by what it had ballooned into.

What an incredible position to be in: So many people we’ve never met fiercely fighting for us online. I guess this is what being consistent, across so many factors, over the years has brought us. 🥹
