Science & Tech Newsletter, Issue 1: Undersea Microbes and JavaScript Games
Hi everyone,
Welcome to my first article roundup! Every so often I'll send a quick summary of a few articles I have written in science and tech. While I work as a web and app developer, I taught science for eight years and wrote Dr. Birdley Teaches Science, a series of comics-based resource books that cover biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. So as I write, I find myself gravitating to topics in both tech and biology.
Today I published an article called Unexpected Life at the Galápagos Rift, which chronicles the discovery of seafloor microbes. Unheard of until 1977, these fascinating species make their own food in complete darkness and support strange and diverse ecosystems. I first learned of these little buggers at an educator workshop in Woods Hole in 2008, and ever since I have found them fascinating.
With respect to coding and tech, below is a two-part tutorial I have written related to a maze game I built specifically for the the Medium app. My hope is that it will be a fun read and provide some insight into JS fundamentals.

I hope you enjoy this quick roundup of articles. Have a terrific week!
Best,
Nevin
