It has been a few months since you heard from me. Although the pandemic continues to hang heavily over us, some things have finally started to return to a “new normal”.
I hope this email finds you and your family safe and well. I'm writing to let you know that the board and the conference committee have been very busy during this time.
Being in lockdown has opened up many options with respect to on-line activities. As a result, we are looking at ways to get the club, as well as our conference attendees, together in a safe manner.
To this end, we have investigated on-line platforms that support “virtual conferences”. A virtual conference being one that is conducted online and you can attend from the safety of your own home. Best of all, you do not need to be a “computer expert” to participate.
We are in the final stages of deciding on a platform supplier that will allow us to have a virtual Yankee Gathering this November. We are hoping that this virtual conference will allow for many or most of the experiences that have made our Yankee Gatherings such enjoyable experiences in the past.
We are planning to have speakers, tours, exhibits, dealers, possibly an auction and/or a flea market, and “lounges” that will allow attendees to interact with each other much like what happens at our in-person conferences.
We cannot go into much detail at this time since many things still need to be finalized but when we have our schedule set and details ironed out, you will be among the first to know.
On a related note, we are also looking at hosting a virtual NEMCA meeting early in the fall. This will be a much-watered down version of the conference but will allow for many of our usual meeting components (minus the cookies and snacks, unfortunately). Again, as details are set, we will be getting them out to you.
Something that you can do right now is become a member of the club’s Facebook page. Mike Mayo and Scott Martell have created a Facebook page called, appropriately, “New England Magic Collectors Association” and is open to anyone who is registered on Facebook.
It already has many photos from previous Yankee Gatherings, a tour of Ray Goulet’s mini museum and will soon have videos as well. It may be the quickest and best way to keep up with club activities as well as interact with other magic collectors and historians.
Once a member, please invite other collector/historian friends to join as well. We are looking to add members and contributors to the site to keep it fresh and active.
Unfortunately, the current state of the pandemic may keep us from getting together in person in the near future but we hope that our efforts to develop alternate approaches to meeting will keep your interest piqued.
I am excited about getting back to you soon with further details of the upcoming events including schedule and registration information. Save the dates, November 14-15, and please check your email and the club Facebook page for future updates
Thank you for your patience during these difficult times. I hope you and yours continue to stay safe and well.
