November happenings in NC live art

In this issue, I cover general November announcements, new and changed meetups, throwdown pics, and upcoming annual plein air events!

This Month's (Moving) Art Events

As always, several figure drawing and general art meetups are occurring every month in the same place - you can find links to those on ncartmeets.com. Here are the outdoor meetups:

  • Saturday, November 8: Urban Sketching at CAM Raleigh with Scott Renk's CAM Raleigh USK group
  • Saturday, November 25: Durham County Main Library (both indoors and outdoors possible!) with Durham Plein Air/USK
  • M.U.S. SketchUp is TBA

Note that Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group is on a break until March.

New/changed meetups

  • The Colab’s Drink and Draw in Raleigh has moved to Tuesdays at Portal HQ starting in November
  • Crabtree Sculpture Studio is now offering live figurative sculpting sessions

Paint the Forest is next week!

While at the last local plein air event, I learned about Paint the Forest in Wake Forest November 5-8. It looks like registration is still open, and they have a cheaper option if you’re only interested on Saturday.

The Throwdown

Do you know a place you've always wanted to sketch or paint in Durham or Orange counties? Let me know so I can host an event there!

Here is a pic from our Durham Plein Air/USK meetup this past month at Duke Gardens’ Meyer Bridge:

You can see a video of all the works up close on Instagram.

Random stuff

  • NC Botanical Gardens - "Sculpture in the Garden" is open until December 7.
  • Thomas Schaller demo - This master watercolorist is giving a demo over zoom to the WSNC (Watercolor Society of North Carolina) on November 11. It's free for members, or $15 for non members. If you're into watercolors, consider the membership option as it's only $35 per year and includes monthly demos for free. Sign up for the demo only or join WSNC.
  • Holiday Art Market at Golden Belt - Shameless self-plug, but I'll have a table at my first art market for the Golden Belt Artists holiday market on Saturday, November 8 10am-5pm.
  • Website improvements - I made the navigation more responsive, added the new meetups, and created a contact page to make it easier for folks to submit new meetups.

Sponsorship

I'm looking for a few monthly sponsors to help make this newsletter and site more sustainable. If you know of a potential business sponsor, please let me know! Also, individuals can support in smaller ways - on Patreon, Ko-fi, or Github Sponsors.

Feedback

If you have suggestions for future things I should announce or post in the monthly, let me know! Also, please let me know if you learn about any additional meetups not yet on the site. Feedback for the newsletter and the website are always welcome.
