May happenings in NC live art

In this issue, I cover general May announcements, new social media accounts, and Durham Plein Air pics.

May Announcements

  • The Durham Plein Air events will be at Duke Chapel on May 6, Ayr Mount on May 17, and American Tobacco Campus on May 27.
  • The Raleigh Outdoor Painting Group events will be at Oak Rock Trail at Umstead State Park and the Durant Nature Preserve.
  • Durham Arts Council class registration begins at 10am on May 9th. If you've ever struggled to get into their Figured Drawing class or Open Figure sessions, put a reminder in your calendar to register right when it opens.
  • The North Carolina Plein Air Art Festival in New Bern is this month! It is invitational but also has a Quick Paint event open to all. Online registration is available. They also have workshops and other events.
  • Sadly, Cheap Joe's Art Stuff is closing, and the discounts are increasing for the stuff they still have in stock. You might be able to snag some deals and help them pay their staff as they clear out their inventory.

New social media accounts

I created accounts on Instagram and Bluesky to share local live art events as I find them as well as to post photos from the Durham Plein Air meetup.

Durham Plein Air and Urban Sketching

Do you know a place you've always wanted to sketch or paint in Durham or Orange counties? Let me know so I can host an event there!

We had a two great meetups in April. The first was in downtown Durham at CCB Plaza: image.png

And the second was at historic Occeeneechee Speedway in Hillsborough: image.png image.png

Sponsorship

I'm looking for a few sponsors to help make this newsletter and site more sustainable. If you know of a potential business sponsor, please let me know! Also, individuals can support in smaller ways - on Patreon, Ko-fi, or Github Sponsors.

Feedback

If you have suggestions for future things I should announce or post in the monthly, let me know! Also, please let me know if you learn about any additional meetups not yet on the site. Feedback for the newsletter and the website are always welcome.
